Calling all Chardonnistas this 21st May! 🥂

If Hawke's Bay is considered the spiritual home of New Zealand Chardonnay, you'll find its heart right here at The Urban Winery.

From bright, elegant and expressive to rich and textural, Chardonnay takes many forms. It's our total focus — call it an obsession if you like. Which is why International Chardonnay Day feels like something worth celebrating properly.

And this year, we're marking the occasion with something genuinely special.

We'll be opening a 3-litre Jeroboam of Zen 2017 (our very first ever vintage of Zen) alongside a selection of rare library Chardonnays poured for the occasion. A bottle this size, this age, this significant, doesn't get opened often. Thursday feels like exactly the right moment.

Join us for a glass of what we love most. Open 12–6pm.

Can't make it in? Celebrate at home. We've partnered with Riedel to put together the perfect set-up — four distinct expressions of Chardonnay paired with two varietal-specific Riedel crystal glasses, designed to make every sip count.

From the moment he joined us, Ryan became part of the rhythm of The Urban Winery. His welcoming warmth, steady pace and expertise have created a memorable experience for so many of you who have walked through our doors.

And as one chapter closes, another begins — watch this space as our new manager steps in from early June.

It’s a wrap! We had a spectacular end to cruise season 2026 a few weeks ago, welcoming 85 guests from Rombauer Vineyards in the US through our doors.

Tony and Oscar hosted our guests, sharing stories, wines, and a slice of what makes this little corner of Hawke’s Bay so special.

Moments like this remind us just how far wine travels, and how it connects people from all over the world, right here in Ahuriri.
