Wooden Sculptures by artists Pete & Megan Collins were inspired by the name Manu and New Zealand's native birds in flight. Featuring the Kōtuku, Tūī, and Tara iti, the sculptures celebrate the beauty of Aotearoa's bird life.

Their Te Manaia sculptures represent a spiritual guardian and the balance between Sky, Earth, and Water, honouring nature, culture, and the stories of our whenua.

Their handcrafted sculptures are woven into the heart of Manu, bringing the stories of Aotearoa's native birdlife to life throughout our space.

Artist Morgan Darlison created this wāhine to honour and empower wāhine.

The intention behind this design is to express the mauri (life force, inner essence) of wāhine internally – celebrating the fluidity, tenacity, strength, and delicate nature of femininity.

She embodies the spirit of Manu, celebrating the mana (strength, prestige, and dignity), resilience, and beauty of wāhine.

Every piece at Manu has a story.

Pōhutukawa MANU by artist Joe Kemp is crafted from reclaimed Pōhutukawa with a whale bone inlay for the eye.

Joe describes the piece as one that "celebrates our culture, Mana Wāhine, and connection to Manu, reviving the mauri (life force) from this old Pōhutukawa tree."

We invite you to pause and connect with this beautiful piece the next time you visit Manu.

Woven with patience, purpose, and aroha.

Our beautiful kete (woven baskets), handcrafted by Rangiputa Wallace, holds more than our Auntie's Rēwena Flatbread—it holds generations of knowledge, culture, and stories woven into every strand.

As Rangiputa says, "Mahi raranga symbolises the survival of our people and culture, and I am honoured to continue this craft."

Her weaving is a living expression of whakapapa (genealogy), keeping the stories of our ancestors alive through the hands of today.

Matariki Koru was designed and created by John Nicholson. These striking sculptures beautifully reflect his love of Māori and Pasifika design, flowing curves, and natural forms.

The nine handcrafted koru suspended above our bar represent the nine stars of Matariki, marking the Māori New Year in Aotearoa —a time to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and look ahead with hope for the year to come.

Long after Matariki, these koru remain a symbol of connection, shared food, and the stories that bring us together.
