Strong stories, great memories and favourite drinks: that’s Huppelpraat. 🍻
This time, we’re shining the spotlight on a familiar face at the bar 🤩
Our Alan.
How did you first end up at the Huppel?
About fifteen years ago, a friend told me about a whisky bar in the city that had an incredible selection of whiskies. That immediately caught my attention. A bar with that many whiskies? I had to go and see it for myself. And that’s how I first ended up at the Huppel. Fifteen years later, I’m still a familiar face at the bar!
What’s your favourite drink at the Huppel?
I don’t really have one favourite drink. I prefer beer from the tap, and I like to try something different every time. An ale, a blond, an IPA… as long as it’s on tap! I really enjoy discovering new flavours, so rather than sticking to one favourite, I like to keep switching things up.
What’s your favourite memory at the Huppel?
Once a year, I come to the Huppel to remember one of my best friends who passed away. I sit at the bar and have a drink with him, in my own way. One thing I’m incredibly grateful for is something Eline has always done without me ever asking. She would make sure the seat next to me, where I would place his drink, stayed free. No one ever discussed it, and I never had to explain why. She simply understood and made sure I had that space and some peace to remember him.
That really captures what makes the Huppel so special to me. The staff remember everyone’s names and always add that personal touch. It’s what makes it feel less like just a pub and more like a place where people genuinely know and care about you.
Who would you most like to have a drink at the bar with?
My daughter, Charli. She lives in Scotland, so unfortunately I’ve never had the chance to bring her to the Huppel for a drink. She’s 19 now, though, so she can finally join me for one!
’m sadly moving to America soon, which means I’ll be leaving the Huppel behind too. But I’m hoping that when I come back to the Netherlands for a visit, I can bring Charli along and show her the place that has meant so much to me over the years.
This was another Huppelpraat, we will miss you Alan 😘
Until the next one! 🍻
