Established in 1759, and in the same (eccentric) family for six generations, John de Bromhead's unusual pub is one of the few remaining houses to bottle its own whiskey. Although not the easiest of places to find, once visited it certainly will not be forgotten. Large, dark and cavernous with a squash court on the premises as well as the more predictable billiards and snooker it consists of a seri

es of bars of differing character, each with its own particular following. It achieves with natural grace what so-called Irish theme pubs would dearly love to capture, and friendly, humorous bar staff enjoy filling customers in on the pub's proud history and will gladly sell you a bottle of Henry Downes No.9 to take away. Open from 5pm to normal closing time. Closed 17 March, 25 Dec & Good Fri.

Just a small update on the Waterford Sound House conversation.

What started as a simple social media post has now led to some really constructive discussions with musicians, creatives, community members and local representatives over the last few days.

One of the most encouraging things has been the amount of practical insight and support coming directly from people involved in music and creative spaces themselves.

We’ve also begun reaching out to similar music/community hubs in places like Cork and Belfast to better understand how these kinds of spaces actually operate in practice, what works well and what challenges they’ve faced.

At this stage nothing formal exists — but it’s genuinely exciting to see a positive community conversation developing around creative space, music and the future potential of the Cultural Quarter.

Really appreciate all the ideas, comments and messages so far. They’ve helped shape the conversation far more than expected.

Waterford clearly has no shortage of creative energy.

And just like that it's tonight! Lots of interest in this one!

The response to the idea of creating a music hub/rehearsal space in the Cultural Quarter has honestly been incredible.

But here’s the thing — we’re not musicians ourselves.

So instead of assuming what’s needed, we’d love to hear directly from the people who would actually use a space like this.

If Waterford had a dedicated music/community rehearsal hub, what would bands and musicians actually need?

• rehearsal rooms?
• secure storage?
• soundproofing?
• recording space?
• affordable hourly rental?
• all-ages access?
• somewhere for younger bands to start out?
• shared equipment?
• late opening hours?

Would you use it?
Would your band use it?
What’s missing in Waterford right now?

Musicians, bands, DJs, producers, sound engineers, music teachers — comment below.

This idea only works if it’s shaped by the people creating the music.
