Songwriter's Stage at The Prince Albert is an event designed to let songwriters showcase their skills in a relaxed, supportive and inclusive environment.

It’s an opportunity to share your own compositions and hear what other people are creating, it could even be a work in progress! It doesn’t matter if you’ve performed a thousand shows or if you’ve never played in front of anyone before, we’ll do our best to make it a welcoming and supportive space to express yourself.

Everyone is welcome but head of programming is particularly keen to encourage those who are under-represented in the music scene to come along and feel confident in performing. We feel that women, non-binary people, people with disabilities and young people among others are often under-represented and we’d love to encourage you to come and join us. We’d also love to know what barriers you feel exist, that might make it more difficult to perform your music. To comply with licensing requirements any person under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The evening will be hosted by Ben of , , and Stroud alt-indie band

Every May the mighty Stroud dwelling, all female morris troupe Boss Morris bring forth “Finger in the Spring”, their modern, annual folk ritual held in early spring to celebrate new life, creativity, and community. Once peoples wriggly digits have been dipped in the cool waters they all follow Boss Morris up through Rodborough fields to our pub at the top of a very steep hill for food, drinks, music, singing, DJ sets and dancing.

This year Jack Pilston was there with his trusty camera to capture some of the beautiful shenanigans!

Raw emotion is the proud currency of this six-piece indie folk- rock outfit from Stroud. Gutsy vocals driven by hard guitars, mandolin, violin, accordion and drums suggest echoes of the legendary folk-rock greats, yet boast a uniqueness that’s making them a rousing festival favourite with their growing army of fans.

After more than fifteen years below deck, The Outcast Band return with 'Anchors, Mermaids & Sails', a powerful indie-folk-rock album shaped by time, tide, and distance. Blending raw energy with intimate, reflective moments, it explores love, loss, disillusionment and hope, resulting in a long-awaited fourth album that is both atmospheric and deeply resonant.

‘A fine singer-songwriter, and an excellent guitarist’ – Songlines
‘A master-class of inspired and beautifully-sounding craftsmanship’ – KLOF

Raised in the East Yorkshire flatlands on the fringes of Hull (UK), Katie Spencer landscape has always been that of open skies and widening rivers. It is this sense of space and movement that flows through her assured guitar style and songwriting. Now, as Katie steps into this new era with a third album, her focus turns to those deeper inner spaces, inviting the listener to engage with her heartfelt and intricately-crafted songs.

Her writing, and most notably her guitar playing stems from a time when the steel-stringed instrument was truly finding its voice. Artists like Joni Mitchell, Judee Sill, Julie Byrne and perhaps most evidently Michael Chapman, weave into her sound. Katie absorbs these influences into her songwriting and with her distinctive deep vibrato and crystal-clear guitar style, she makes the music inimitably her own.

The electrifying sound of Birmingham’s fiery, (un)traditional folk band Bonfire Radicals is both intensely creative and irresistibly fun. Their live set is a frenzy of energy – “dynamic and high octane” (Fatea Magazine) – and captures the adventurous breadth of their musical imaginations which emerge from a melting pot of original and traditional tunes from the British Isles to the Balkans.
