Kevin Brown Musician is one of the UK’s most respected blues guitarists, singers and songwriters, renowned for his masterful slide guitar playing and lifelong commitment to the blues tradition. Born in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, in 1950, he discovered the music as a teenager after seeing Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta Tharpe on television, beginning a passion that has shaped his career for more than four decades. While busking in London’s Portobello Road in the late 1960s, Kevin met the legendary Delta bluesman Son House. Their encounter proved pivotal, with House informally mentoring the young musician and leaving a lasting influence on Kevin’s distinctive slide guitar style.

Songwriter’s Stage at The Prince Albert, Stroud is a relaxed, supportive and inclusive night for songwriters to perform their original music — whether you’re an experienced performer or stepping on stage for the first time. Works in progress are welcome! We particularly encourage women, non-binary people, disabled people and young people to take part. Under-16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Each performer gets two songs / up to 10 minutes. Vocal mics and basic connections for acoustic guitars, keyboards and similar instruments are available. Please check with Ben in advance if you have any unusual equipment or setup. There are five pre-bookable slots, with additional spaces available on the night. We aim for around 12 performers.
