The Northumberland Arms Community Pub We are an enthusiastic group of local residents who collectively purchased, and now run, our local community pub. Pop in to say hello.

The Northumberland Arms in Marple Bridge closed its doors on Sunday 16th January 2017.
​Our community had the opportunity to buy it and create a community owned pub in
the heart of the local area that would secure the sustainability of the business for the future and create a focal point for the area and help keep our sense of community. In December 2017 we achieved our aim and reopened our doors.

A community run pub with the interests of our local community at heart. Who We Are:
We are an enthusiastic group of local residents who, following several public meetings, have formed a steering group to secure the future of ‘The Thumb’. Our number is made up of professionals in the fields of business, architecture, finance, pub management and administration. Our Aims:
We want to run the pub as an enterprise for the good of the area, for the present and for future generations. In the future, we want to diversify the business to include a daytime café, which will increase usage and further enhance the community hub and increase engagement with the community.

CAMRA Northwest Pub Of The Year 2026
This really is a fantastic achievement covering Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man and competing against some fantastic pubs in their own right .
So well done to all involved for making this happen .

Thanks to those from the Thumb Legs team who walked The 12 Bridges in 5 Miles walk from The Thumb on the 12th July, and all the others who donated, we helped Nuala and the team from The Christie, raise this amazing amount which is going to support the Christie Lymphoma Research Team.
