Weird Weekend # 2 : MADE IN THE SHADE
29-29 November
The Runaway Brewery Stockport

Following the success of Running Wild last spring, we're hosting another Weird Weekend this November! 

This time around, the focus will be strong, dark and wild & we'll be pouring unusual, rare and barrel-aged b**rs from the brewery cellar.

Made in the Shade will kick off on Thursday 26th November with the launch of two brand new, barrel-aged, blended stouts in keg, cask and bottle , and an all new, cocktail-inspired Shandy Panaché in collaboration with Steep Soda

Throughout the weekend the taproom bar will be expanded, with 13 lines dedicated to Made in the Shade alongside a small selection of regular taproom favourites.

We will be pouring a range of dark and wild b**rs including: export and imperial stouts; barley w**e; porter; dark l***r; and, black IPA; alongside a number of new releases from ‘Oubliette’ - our barrel project.

Our pals from The Depot will take over the Kitchen on Thursday evening for a b**r-paired, three course supper-club, with a menu inspired by rustic Italian classics. As usual, specially selected b**r pairings will be available on the night to accompany each course.

As ever, Runaway Café B**rmoth will be curating an extra special bottle & can selection from brewers across the UK and beyond to drink in or take away too!

Made in the Shade will be open to all and free to attend throughout the weekend. Tickets for the Depot X Runaway Supper Club on Thursday 26th November will be available from the Honest Crust Sourdough Pizza website.

We're launching our green hopped Harvest B**r this weekend at the taproom.

Brewed with almost 30kg of freshly picked, wet hops (a combination of Challenger from Herefordshire & Fuggles/Goldings from ) AND 16 kilos of raw honey collected by our friends Richard & Kay in the Calder Valley.

A true expression of this year's harvest.

Green Hops & Raw Honey

Harvest is an exciting time of year and gives us an opportunity to really explore connections between the farm and the fermentor. It’s also a timely annual reminder of how important the b**r industry can be to both local and international agriculture - and how big an impact the changing climate is having on an already fragile, but vitally important industry, especially here in the UK.

Here at Runaway that means continuing to seek out & utilise the highest quality British malt and hops as the cornerstone for our b**rs wherever we can, supplemented by new and interesting ingredients from around the globe. So whether that be traditional cask b**rs, internationally influenced hop bombs, or European inspired l***rs, sours or saisons - we’re always looking out for sustainable ingredients that provide impact and balance in all of our b**rs.

Our beekeeping friends Richard & Jay over in Hebden Bridge have also been busier than ever this year, with a record number of hives & record amounts of delicious raw honey produced as a result.

So this year, we've decided to celebrate the harvest with an all new, green hopped, raw honey infused, cask b**r. Launching in early October at the taproom & in cask across the finest pubs in the NW.

Our little celebration of European inspired b**rs & Stockport Indie Culture is BACK!

Thursday 1st - Sunday 4th October

Honest Crust Sourdough Pizza will be in the house as usual - BUT doubling up on Friday & Saturday for Pizza AND... a special Stocktoberfest menu from the HC Kitchen!

Thursday 1st: 

Stocktoberfest Launch: two new Stocktoberfest inspired b**rs launching on keg and in cask to get the celebrations started!

Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd:

Stocktoberfest Takeover: 16 lines of European inspired b**rs pouring  (or until they run dry) including 3 new b**rs & two Stocktoberfest exclusives!

Stocktoberfest Stichfass: Pop-up, gravity pours straight from the keg

Stocktoberfest Syrups: Berlinerweisse served with house made fruit / flavoured syrups

Stocktoberfest Sours: A rare chance to try b**rs from Oubliette, our cellar & barrel project, on draught!

Stocktoberfest Sounds: Specially curated playlists from the Runaway selectors feat. Kraftwerk, Krautrock, Ramstein and Hasslehoff.

Stocktoberfest B**rhall: Our first floor will become a bunting laden bierhalle for the weekend! 

Sunday 4th:

Stocktoberfest Sunday: Board games and chill. Help us finish off the celebrations with a few post-fest b**rs whilst we get things back to normal.

Runaway Brewery is looking for a reliable, confident and enthusiastic Shift Manager to join our taproom team.

We’re a small independent brewery with a busy, welcoming taproom serving fresh b**r straight from the source. If you’re someone who enjoys hospitality, takes pride in delivering a great guest experience and is comfortable taking responsibility for the taproom during your shift, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll be someone who:

• Has previous bar or hospitality experience
• Can confidently take responsibility for shifts and makes decisions when needed
• Will deliver a friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming service to guests
• Leads by example and possesses excellent communication skills
• Is confident supporting, supervising and motivating the team during busy shifts
• Is reliable, organised and proactive
• Can deal confidently with guest queries and day-to-day issues
• Has an interest in b**r and willingness to learn more about our brewery and b**rs
• Is available to work evenings and weekends
• Has a positive attitude and a genuine enjoyment of hospitality

Huge thanks to the team & the farms we visited for showing us around & sharing such incredible knowledge with us.

Our order is in for 20 kilos of fresh, green Challenger which we'll be turning into a celebration of the 2026 harvest this month.
