It’s Cask Ale Week! We love our ales here at The Charlie.
Our regular ales are Landlord and Harvey’s Sussex Best.
We also have rotating guest ales. At the moment we have Brains SA and Dartmoor Jail Ale.
Brains SA (4.2%) is a much-loved Welsh ale and one of the most recognisable b**rs produced by Brains Brewery in Cardiff. First brewed in 1959, this distinctive amber ale has earned a loyal following for its smooth, balanced character and easy-drinking appeal. It combines gentle malt flavours with a subtle hop bitterness, delivering a refreshing pint with plenty of character without being overpowering. Brains SA is equally suited to a relaxed lunchtime pint, a lively evening with friends, or enjoying alongside traditional pub food. With its rich Welsh brewing heritage and unmistakable flavour, SA remains a classic choice for ale drinkers.
Dartmoor Jail Ale (4.8%) is a distinctive Devon ale brewed by the Dartmoor Brewery, taking its name from the famous prison at Princetown on Dartmoor. This characterful b**r is traditionally crafted to deliver a rich, malty flavour with a satisfying balance of gentle bitterness and warming sweetness. Its deep amber colour and smooth, full-bodied character make it a popular choice for lovers of traditional British ales. Inspired by the rugged landscape and heritage of Dartmoor, it has a sense of place in every pint. Enjoyable on its own or alongside hearty pub food, Dartmoor Jail Ale is a proper West Country classic.
Coming soon we have Fuller’s ESB (5.5%) a legendary British strong ale, first brewed by Fuller, Smith & Turner and renowned for its rich, distinctive character. ESB stands for Extra Special Bitter, and this classic London ale delivers a wonderfully balanced combination of deep malt flavours, subtle fruitiness and satisfying hop bitterness. Its copper-red colour and smooth, full-bodied character make it a rewarding pint for those who appreciate traditional English ales. With layers of caramel, toasted malt and gentle hop spice leading to a long, warming finish, Fuller’s ESB has earned an enduring reputation among real ale enthusiasts. A true British pub classic, it’s best enjoyed properly served.
