At the Penny, keeping our community at the heart of everything we do has always been our priority.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our customers, team and visitors, we’re pleased to let you know that we now have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on site.

An AED is designed to be used by anyone and provides clear voice instructions to help in a cardiac emergency while emergency services are on their way.

🚨 In the event of a medical emergency, please alert a member of our team immediately. Our team can quickly access the AED and assist while 999 is contacted.

We hope it’s something we’ll never need, but we’re proud to have taken this important step to help make our pub an even safer place for everyone.

Hospitality is hard enough without those within the industry trying to tear each other down.

Every pub, bar, café and venue is different. We all have different communities, different customers, different costs, different challenges and different ways of doing things. That’s the beauty of our industry. If every venue looked the same, served the same people and ran the same events, hospitality would be incredibly boring.

Competition is healthy. Different ideas are healthy. Learning from each other is healthy.

What disappoints me is when criticism comes not from customers—that’s part of the job—but from other operators who know exactly how tough this industry is. They know the pressures, the sleepless nights, the staffing issues, the rising costs and the endless balancing act that comes with keeping the doors open.

We don’t all have to agree with each other’s decisions, but a little respect goes a long way.

Celebrate what’s good at your own venue. Be proud of what you create. Lift the standards of the industry by lifting each other, not by taking cheap shots from the sidelines.

There’s room for all of us. Hospitality is at its best when we’re competitors on paper, but colleagues in spirit.

Card Payment Outage – Thank You for Your Patience

Yesterday evening we experienced an outage with our card payment system. Unfortunately, this was a nationwide issue and completely outside of our control.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

While technology makes life easier most of the time, situations like this remind us that it isn’t always reliable. We would therefore recommend carrying some cash and your bank card where possible, just in case similar issues occur in the future.
