Manchester's finest entertainment experience... music, food, wine and a unique atmosphere! Since its inception in 1998 Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club has striven to deliver the best in live music. The only true dedicated Jazz venue in the North-West of England Matt and Phred’s has a live act 6 nights of the week. Over the years the club has played host to some of the biggest names on the national and

international jazz scene as well as funk, soul and blues legends gracing our stage. Wynton Marsalis, Lonnie Liston Smith, Adele, Kit Downes, Jamie Cullum and Kirsty Almeida are just a few of the faces that have attended Matt and Phred’s over the years, whether it was to play or just because of the name we have on the UK Jazz scene. On Monday nights we host Jam nights an open mic nights which help to keep the community of musicians in Manchester together. Tuesday’s // Wednesday’s & Thursday's are trio & quartet night’s where you often get to see some of the most talented musicians in the Uk playing raw stripped down versions of their music, often Nat Birchall, Stuart McCallum (The Cinematic Orchestra), Myke Wilson and Luke Flowers (The Cinematic Orchestra) can be found with a couple of other musicians playing fierce new material from 9pm. On weekend nights we try to secure the best in local and touring talent for the satisfaction of Mancunian music fans, from straight ahead Jazz, to African Rhythms to Latin Soul and all that’s in between there is never a disappointing act on Friday or Saturday. As well as providing a cornerstone to the UK jazz scene Matt and Phred’s is a central bar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter scene serving food and cocktails 7 nights a week with the kitchen open until midnight every night.

For over a quarter of a century, Richard Wetherall has graced the keys, collaborating with some of the biggest names in jazz, including the esteemed Richard Iles, the legendary Bobby Wellins, and the masterful Mark Nightingale.

His musical journey has taken him across the globe, touring extensively with Casablanca Steps and Dominic Halpin and the Honey B’s. A particular highlight of his illustrious career includes the unforgettable experience of supporting the iconic Tony Bennett and his quartet in Halifax, Canada – a testament to his exceptional skill and captivating stage presence.

Bob Haddrell (vocals/organ/piano) is a much in demand as a session player in this country, Bob also writes with top Nashville artists, has recorded in the States with Billy Swan, and has toured and recorded with Chicago's Jimmy Dawkins and Dave Specter. Truly "in the groove", Bob has created the unique sound of "The Barcodes". He has also performed with Alan Barnes, Art Themen, Jim Mullen, Zoot Money, Paul Jones, Shakey Vick, Chris Youlden, Bernie Marsden, Tim Hain, P*e Wee Ellis, Sonny Black, Nicky Payn, Gordon Smith & Earl Green. Bob has released his own CD 'Shaded Spot' on Note Records

A recent review of Bob’s latest album:

‘A Shaded Spot’ is a more blues oriented album but with many, jazzy inflections The main star is Bob Haddrell, who sings and plays eleven cuts in the path of Kansas or West Coast piano school, that is to say, swinging like Count Basie or Glenn Lloyd used to do, to only mention two quite different piano players.

Bob Haddrell has a distinguished pedigree as one of the UK’s foremost blues keyboardists, and his work on the Hammond organ is renowned. The mark of a great Hammond organist is the addition of pedal bass, a feat of co-ordination which needs to be seen to be believed. With the addition of the occasional vocal, Bob is a musical powerhouse on the stage.

Tonight, Bob is joined by Derrick Harris on guitar and Paul Smith on drums.

House band Dreamer take to the stage to invite singers and musicians to join them in filling M&P’s with the very best Funk, Soul, Pop, Rock, Disco, and everything in between from across the decades.

The All Star Jam is the night you want to be at if you love the all-time classics of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and today. We encourage all musicians, singers, and MC’s to come along and give performing in front of the wonderful M&P audience a go.

Anyone who has experienced a Matt & Phred’s Blues Jam will agree that no one quite gets the show started like the one and only Franny Eubank. A hugely popular and talented lyricist and harmonica player, Franny never fails to ignite the atmosphere at the club delivering a one-of-a-kind and truly authentic night of Blues. Come along, have the dance of your life, and enjoy a full band performance like no other. Franny could keep you entertained but solo, but no need: for this gig he is joined by three of Manchester’s finest Blues-ers.

Fuelled by the Blues of Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson and fired by the Devil himself, Franny’s Harmonica and deep, soulful vocals have set rooms alight with a blue flame night after night after night. Isaac Malibu is singer who is primed for live performance, supported a discography of contemporary RnB and an ever-growing music network which has allowed him to develop into the role of a promoter, curating his own his own music line-ups - Malibu is a well-rounded music professional making an impact in the north of England. 2024 and 2025 have seen notable increases in momentum, with more performances across larger stages, and a consistent stream of releases in collaboration with several producers, the next few years are looking to be significantly developmental in his career.

Expect a dynamic, feel-good live show from Isaac, blending smooth R&B with touches of soul, funk, and pop. Backed by a tight collective of musicians, his performances are energetic yet intimate, featuring a mix of polished originals, unreleased material, and creative covers spanning artists from Frank Ocean to Earth, Wind & Fire. With a strong stage presence and a knack for curating diverse line-ups, Isaac creates more than just a gig - it’s a vibrant, inclusive musical experience that champions community, fresh talent, and authentic expression.

Limbo Days is the project of Manchester-based musician and producer Elliot Gaspar, drawing on deep roots in soul and jazz while keeping one foot in modern songwriting. Raised in the North on a steady diet of classic soul and rock, Gaspar brings a beautiful passion of music to the stage - equally at home on vocals, guitar and piano - with a style shaped by the likes of Marvin Gaye, James Brown, and Ray Charles, yet unmistakably his own.

Joining him are longtime collaborator Ben Roberts on drums, versatile bassist Harry Marshall, and saxophonist Richard Carter-Smith, whose playing adds a lively, expressive edge to the sound. Expect the band to flow through soul and jazz classics, modern favourites, with a selection of Limbo Days originals scattered throughout.

The New Orleans Jam sees our little jazz club filled with the blaring brass, Rhythm and Blues, Second Line Grooves, Street Beats, Funk, Rock’n’Roll, and Rhumba of New Orleans, where the round-the-clock atmosphere sees never ending music filling the streets… This is the music of Dr. John, Fats Domino, Jelly Roll Morton, and Professor Longhair, to name but a few, and those who come by to play at the jams follow in their footsteps tremendously.
