Manchester's finest entertainment experience... music, food, wine and a unique atmosphere! Since its inception in 1998 Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club has striven to deliver the best in live music. The only true dedicated Jazz venue in the North-West of England Matt and Phred’s has a live act 6 nights of the week. Over the years the club has played host to some of the biggest names on the national and

international jazz scene as well as funk, soul and blues legends gracing our stage. Wynton Marsalis, Lonnie Liston Smith, Adele, Kit Downes, Jamie Cullum and Kirsty Almeida are just a few of the faces that have attended Matt and Phred’s over the years, whether it was to play or just because of the name we have on the UK Jazz scene. On Monday nights we host Jam nights an open mic nights which help to keep the community of musicians in Manchester together. Tuesday’s // Wednesday’s & Thursday's are trio & quartet night’s where you often get to see some of the most talented musicians in the Uk playing raw stripped down versions of their music, often Nat Birchall, Stuart McCallum (The Cinematic Orchestra), Myke Wilson and Luke Flowers (The Cinematic Orchestra) can be found with a couple of other musicians playing fierce new material from 9pm. On weekend nights we try to secure the best in local and touring talent for the satisfaction of Mancunian music fans, from straight ahead Jazz, to African Rhythms to Latin Soul and all that’s in between there is never a disappointing act on Friday or Saturday. As well as providing a cornerstone to the UK jazz scene Matt and Phred’s is a central bar in Manchester’s Northern Quarter scene serving food and cocktails 7 nights a week with the kitchen open until midnight every night.

Every 2nd Monday of the month sees M&P’s become an unmatched nucleus of all things Jazz for both local musicians and visitors to musically express themselves in a way nowhere else can offer.

Led by Johnny Hunter and his band, musicians of any level, brought together by their love of Jazz, are welcomed to the M&P stage to jam the night away alongside some of the finest musicians in the North. This is a unique experience to come together with others to perform some classic Jazz, be it a 'standard' or something more modern, whilst showing the rest of the performers and audience your approach to improvisation.

Bonuru is the creation of writer, bandleader & guitarist Jacob Marshall-Tierney. His compositions have their roots in the exciting new sounds of UK Jazz, but also draw influence from bands as diverse as Nirvana, Tool and The Police.

Bonuru are signed to Blue Adventure Records, a label set up by NK-OK of Blue Lab Beat's fame. Bonuru have been played on BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio 3, WWFM, and Jazz FM, and have been highly praised by prestigious DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Soweto Kinch and Emily Pilbeam.

Tonight, the band will be playing through their debut album, ‘Thin Places’. They'll also be covering a vast array of popular music, reworking songs from Nirvana, Radiohead, The Police and Nick Drake to name a few, with a couple of jazz standards thrown in for good measure.

Bonuru are definitely one to watch - and they're just getting started!

If you’re looking to develop your ensemble playing, strengthen your improvisation, and connect with a community of ambitious musicians, this is for you.

On Sunday 19th July, Kollectivity and Bandskool are launching a FREE workshop at Matt & Phred’s for musicians interested in playing in a large jazz ensemble.

You’ll work on section playing, stylistic interpretation, improvisation, and the skills needed to thrive in a larger group setting - all led by experienced professional musicians.

This workshop is also the launchpad for DGKII, a new large ensemble connected to the DGKollective family, with opportunities for ongoing rehearsals, collaborations, and future projects.

If you’ve been looking for a way to challenge yourself musically and meet like-minded players, we’d love to see you there.

The Hybrid Sessions is a monthly jam at Matt & Phred’s, inspired by cutting-edge electronic artists like Floating Points, Maribou State, Thom Yorke, and Jojo Mayer. What sets The Hybrid Sessions apart is its unique fusion of live music with electronic production. Musicians and singers have the chance to deconstruct and reshape digital sounds in real-time, pushing boundaries and exploring new ways to create.

More of a listener than a player? No problem! Come along, kick back, and enjoy the night unfolding... The music you hear has never been heard before and never will again...Whether you're into jazz, drum and bass, or anything in between, this is your chance to experience -and be part of -the future of live music.

Hosted by artist and producer Laurie Agnew, these sessions are a creative playground for all musicians to take improvisation to a new dimension. The stage is open to instrumentalists and vocalists; get in touch with to check what equipment is provided and what you need to bring along.

Welcoming all musicians/singers to jam with the band - just chat to the band leader! Or, come along and watch the magic unfold!

Every 1st Monday of the month sees our resident Blues band, fronted by the fantastic Franny Eubank, take to the stage for a night of music like no other. The band will jam the night away with players of any standard, staying true to what Blues is all about.

Come equipped with your steel guitars, basses, mouth organs, sticks, vocal cords, or whatever other instrument you play, and join this mighty house band to either play one of the classics or see where the beat takes you… That’s the joy of the Blues. Oh, and don’t be surprised if Franny asks you to join in on a song mid-way through it!

My Generation, Manchester’s Coolest Cabaret Club Nights are aimed at those who frequented the northern club scene over the decades gone by. A place where guests can experience the music and vibe reminiscent of the club scene they experienced as teens.

Traditionally the sounds of the 60s, Soul, Motown and Northern Soul feature heavily at our club nights, and this night will be no exception!

Guests will receive a warm welcome on the door as they step into a relaxed, safe and friendly atmosphere. It’s not about how you look, dress up, dress down, it’s up to you. It’s all about music and dancing.

Introducing our live act for the evening – Ben Brierley, The Soul Man is a popular solo artist who performs regularly across the northwest, covering songs from many of the great Soul Legends, including Otis Reading, Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, James Brown.

Expect to be singing along and moving to some great Northern Soul Classics such as The Snake, the Um Um Song, Get Out, Gonna Give Her All The Love I’ve Got and Open the Door to Your Heart.
