Quick video today. Haircut this morning, haircut out tonight, so if I look a little bit smarter than usual, that’s the reason! 😂

I was chatting to a good friend of mine last night, Wayne from Mega Bounce Bouncy Castles in Ross-on-Wye. I’ve known Wayne for years. He covers Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and beyond, and he’s a proper entrepreneur. Always full of ideas and always thinking ahead.

We got talking about business.

Wayne asked me how things were going and I said, “We’re busy. Really busy. Whether we’re making any money is another conversation altogether!” 😂

He said since COVID, a lot of people have invested in their homes. They’ve built bars, patios, outdoor kitchens and they’re spending more time entertaining at home. And he’s right.

Then he said something interesting.

He said, “Phil, every time we’ve eaten at The Farmer’s Boy, it’s been excellent. Absolutely excellent. But some families are watching every penny right now.”

And that got me thinking.

Years ago, we used to run something called Prime Time.

It was simple.

Come in between 5pm and 7pm and enjoy great food at a great value price.

So we’re bringing Prime Time back.

More details coming very soon, but the idea is simple: make it easier for families, couples and anyone watching the pennies to still enjoy a meal out.

And that’s not all.

Wayne has also offered to help us launch some fantastic family days with bouncy castles, kids’ activities, the play area, food packages and much more.

We’re working on Bronze, Silver and Gold family packages where you can bring the kids, enjoy some food, let them burn off some energy and make a day of it.

Let’s be honest, some of those big indoor play centres can be packed, noisy and expensive.

We want to create something a little different here at The Farmer’s Boy.

Good food.
Fresh air.
A safe play area.
Family-friendly events.
And great value.

So watch this space.

Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, owner of multiple pubs and restaurants and one of the most recognised voices in British hospitality, has launched a national campaign calling for Hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10%.

Tom understands exactly what hospitality businesses are facing because he lives it every day. He employs people, pays the bills, deals with rising costs and faces the same pressures as every pub, restaurant, café and hotel owner across the country.

The reality is simple.

Many hospitality businesses are being pushed to breaking point by:

We’ve been busy this week and last week!

Monday night was absolutely packed. You genuinely couldn’t get in. We had the pool team in 🎱, a 40th birthday party 🎉, another private party, and lots of people just popping in as well. It was great to see.

The weekend was good, the B&B rooms have been really busy, and a big thank you to everyone who has stayed with us recently. Last night was busy too, and I think we’re full again tonight.

So business is good.

Whether we’re making any money is a different conversation altogether 😂 but business is definitely good!

June is shaping up to be a busy month.
👨 Father’s Day is coming up, so make sure you get booked in.
🍔 The Big Ugly Burger Challenge is back at the end of the month. We’ve already started getting messages about it, so if you’re planning on taking it on, get your name down.
🏆 And the football is nearly here as well. We’ll have banners up, special offers, pie-and-pint deals, and plenty of atmosphere. Come on Scotland! Come on England! ⚽

There’s lots happening through June and July, and although today is a little bit dull, we really can’t complain after the weather we’ve had recently.

Most importantly, thank you for all your support. It genuinely means a lot to us.

And while you’re out and about, don’t forget your local rural pubs too. We’ve got some fantastic pubs around the area, and they all need support. Hospitality is still facing plenty of challenges, but it’s great to see people getting out and backing local businesses.
