From a dream to something we’re incredibly proud of ❤️🐄🍻
The first two photos were taken on 8th July 2022. Looking back at them now, alongside the more recent photos, it’s amazing to see just how far we’ve come.
What started as an idea, born out of necessity, has grown into something so much bigger than we ever imagined.
When the dairy industry took a devastating downturn and farming became increasingly difficult, we were faced with the reality that things had to change. Farmers, who have always been and should still be the backbone of our communities, needed more support. With little help coming from the government, we knew we had to find our own way forward.
And so, the dream of diversifying the farm began. But we didn’t just want to build a campsite. We wanted to create a community. Somewhere people could come together, enjoy the countryside, share good food and drink, listen to live music, meet friends and make memories.
That dream became Crossgate Farm Campsite and The Cow Shed Café & Bar. ❤️
But Crossgate has always been about more than buildings, tables, b**r taps and pitches.
Back in 1966, my grandparents, Barrie and Dorothy, built this farm from the ground up with their own hands. My grandad sadly passed away on 10th August 2022, but so much of what he helped build lives on in everything we do here. And Grandma Dorothy? Well, she’s still very much the boss around here! ❤️
Sometimes, when you’re busy working, planning the next event, fixing the next problem or dreaming up the next idea, you forget to stop and look back at how far you’ve come. Not just as a business, but as people, as a family and as a community.
We’re still learning, still growing and still developing this space into everything we hope it can be. There’s plenty more to come, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created together.
As we head towards the end of another season, we just wanted to take a moment to appreciate the journey so far and thank everyone who has supported us, visited us, worked with us, shared a pint, eaten a pizza or simply been part of the Crossgate community. You’ve all helped make this what it is today. ❤️
We’ve only got a couple of weeks left before we close for winter, following our Bonfire Night celebrations on 7th November, so we’d absolutely love to see you before then!
