The Canny Man’s is an Edinburgh institution established in 1871 and passed down through generations of the Kerr family. It is a free house, as free as the wind as Mr Kerr used to say, therefore it has no connection with any brewery and only sells the best of each brewers produce. The public house serves food everyday from 12-3pm and in the evenings from 6.30-9pm (except Fri/Sun nights). The food that is served is seafood and S MØRREBRØD sandwiches. Introduced many years ago, it has been tailor-made to suit customers’ needs, and freshly prepared each day, it is ideal as a drinker's meal. A public house that is what this is, and it has survived as such for over one hundred years. Please try to remember it, and the characters you see here are real. It is well loved and well hated. Loved by those who know it and hated by those who do not understand it. A place that will not change, will not alter, respecting the past and prepared at all cost to preserve the future.

Join us for the next instalment of The Canny Man’s W**e Society, as our resident sommelier takes us through the w**es blind.

There will be a fun quiz to take part in with prizes from The Canny Man’s and The Lane Hotel for those whose tasting skills are above par! 🏆

As always we will have food to accompany the w**es - so get practicing your w**e tasting skills and join us for an evening of food, w**e and fun!

Its walls are covered in mostly memorabilia given or left by servicemen who frequented the room during the 2nd World War.

The room was popular because they could gain entry unseen, often in uniform via the courtyard and if necessary make a quick exit the same way.

Today, it services as a more private dining area in the public house… or the perfect spot for a quick drink.
