📢 Derry Canna Nanna Medical Cannabis Group Meeting

Just a quick reminder that our next Derry Canna Nanna Medical Cannabis Group meeting is coming up a little earlier this month on Friday, 19th June.

Due to the short notice, we're expecting a smaller gathering, which will give us a good opportunity to discuss plans and preparations for the Health Committee Day taking place on 10th September. More details on that event will be shared in a separate video very soon.

🕜 The group meeting starts from 1:30pm and, as always, everyone is welcome.

Expect the usual mix of education, support, conversation, and good craic. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, creating a welcoming and informative environment for anyone interested in learning more about medical cannabis.

Activities and discussions will include:
🎨 Painting and creative activities
💨 Dry herb vaporiser tips and advice
🏥 Discussions around clinics and prescriptions
🤝 Peer support and problem-solving
☕ A relaxed chance to meet like-minded people

If you've seen our previous meeting posts and have been thinking about coming along but haven't quite taken the step yet, this could be the perfect opportunity. It's completely normal to feel a bit nervous before attending for the first time, and many of our members felt exactly the same way.

Come along, learn more, meet the community, and discover how medical cannabis has helped many people improve their quality of life.

Wee reminder on this one as I try to do other things here but in the meantime if you could, please let me know how much you spend per month on your script and if it causes you financial stress.

Honestly, it does for me some months and I work full time! Cannot imagine what it is like for those who cannot or have very limited income. Late friends and ones still about have told me time and time again they struggle to afford it and in one case after all they did for promotion of clinics here, is frankly a bit stomach turning!

I will not hold back nor be shy when it comes to September 10th.

Help me push this!

We’ve got some important news to share with our community!

The Burn Pit Lounge and members have been invited to attend an informal Committee Clinic at Parliament Buildings in (pronounced Stor-mount :p) this September to discuss the issues we’ve been raising around medical cannabis access, cost reductions, patient rights, and safe consumption spaces, and more!

We’ve been allocated a 30-minute session with Committee Members, where we’ll deliver a short opening statement followed by a Q&A. While the session itself is informal, the discussions will directly inform future formal Committee decisions. This is progress!

📅 Date: Thursday 10 September 2026
🕒 Time: 2:30pm – 3:00pm
📍 Location: Parliament Buildings, Stormont

This is a meaningful step forward. It’s an opportunity to ensure that patient voices, lived experiences, and the realities of our community are heard at a policy level.

We’ll be preparing (basically done) key points and supporting materials in the coming weeks. If there are issues you feel must be raised, we encourage you to reach out and share your perspective. For this please use the anon survey to tell us how much you spend per month on your prescription and if it causes you any financial stress.

I am working on organising three speakers to represent patient voices, experiences, and education properly. Alongside that, we’re also looking at logistics for anyone who wants to attend and support at Stormont.

Your support genuinely matters here. Whether that’s showing up, sharing your experience, or simply being part of the community on the day — it all counts.

We’re exploring options like:
– Travelling together as a group from Derry
– Potentially pooling transport
– Or meeting in Belfast and heading up together

All still to be finalised — but it’s something we want to build as a collective effort.

We’ll share more details closer to the time.

Whether you’ve been with us from the start or you’re just curious, you’re more than welcome to call in.

Thought today I would highlight a great resource and something I have found very helpful personally is the PatientsCann UK portal or app. A few times for my own aid I was able to pop on and get the information I required.

I am all for a giant glossary of resources like this and others as the more the merrier, but one of the top for me.
