Rooted in craft, care and stories. Here at the Hare & Hounds in Aberthin we serve good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings. First and foremost, our pub is a thriving local watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for over 300 years. We will carry on doing exactly that, with a range of great ales, interesting wines and homemade seasonal drinks. Alongside th

e bar, we now offer a small, daily changing, seasonal menu in our dining room. We use the very best produce that the Vale of Glamorgan has to offer. Here in the Vale we have some of the most productive soil in the UK, which gives us meat, vegetables and game of the highest quality. The produce available to us from the best Vale producers, our own kitchen garden and our smallholding up the lane, dictate what is on the menu from day to day. Everything is made from scratch in our kitchen, from our own sourdough bread and cultured butter, to our charcuterie and fresh pasta. This is not pretentious fine dining; its just about good food, whether you’ve been for a long walk with your dog or have got something to celebrate. It is a type of regional Welsh cooking. We have been awarded a Bib Gourmand by Michelin for 2018

Yesterday, a fire took hold of the Hare & Hounds. 💚 We’re still taking it all in, but we wanted to come on here and say thank you. To South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, to our incredible team, and to this community that has rallied round us in a way we’ll never forget.

There’s damage, and there’s a long road ahead. But our old bar, full of treasured memories, is still standing, everyone is safe, and with all of you beside us, we know this isn’t the end of the Hare & Hounds story.

Some difficult news to share. There was a fire at the Hare & Hounds this morning. The most important thing is that everyone is safe, and we’re hugely grateful to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and everyone who helped.

We’re still taking it all in and working out what comes next, so please bear with us. The Hare & Hounds has stood at the heart of this village for over 300 years, and with the support of this incredible community, it will again.

It would be wrong of us to let National Cheese Day pass without saying a word 🧀 At the Hare & Hounds, good cheese is always on the menu. We’re passionate about using quality cheeses throughout our dishes, Welsh-produced where we can, but always the very best British cheeses.
