Massey Ferguson Sports and Social Club was originally founded by the workers in the factory at Banner Lane back in 1956. The club originally focussed on the sporting side allowing the workforce to compete in inter-departmental competitions. Not long after, the social club was funded by the workforce and construction commenced in 1968. The club has gone from strength to strength and survived a numb

er of ups and downs, the largest of which was the closure of the Factory in 2002. The club is proud of its heritage and is looking forward to refurbishment work to start to ensure the link with Massey Ferguson and Banner Lane remains for the future.

NEWSLETTER – July 2026

Summer Party

The summer party will be held on Wednesday 26th August at 7.30 pm. A buffet will be provided and this is complimentary to all members. It will be deemed a ‘tropical’ night so please feel free to wear whatever apparel you consider to be appropriate for a day trip to Hawaii! As the dancing time will be somewhat curtailed, and if we so choose, the finish may be extended to 10.30 pm.

World Cup

It will not have passed you by that England have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup and that they will be playing Norway on Saturday. If they win that match they can look forward to the semi final, which will be played next Wednesday 15th July with the kick off at 8.00 pm our time. Obviously this clashes with our usual Wednesday session but please be aware that we shall be meeting on that date whatever the circumstances.

Club Secretary

Steve Gwinnett has decided to stand down from his position of secretary but it is comforting to learn that he wishes to remain as a member of the committee. He has done a wonderful job over the past few years and this has been much appreciated by us all. The committee has exercised its ‘executive powers’ and appointed Liam Sawyer as interim replacement. Liam will bring a great deal of enthusiasm and will, at a stroke, halve the average age of the committee members!

Dance for Dot
It is not often that we promote a dance outside our familiar surroundings but this is an exception. Liam is organizing an afternoon charity fundraiser ‘Dance for Dot’ raising funds for Dementia UK. This will be held on Saturday 22nd August at 2.30 pm at the church hall of St. Martin’s church, Finham. The ticket price is £5 per person and this will include refreshments. Please see Liam or contact him on 07743268406 if you are interested.

Autumn Dance
The Autumn dance will be held on Friday 9th October when we shall be dancing to the music of John Harrison. Tickets are priced at £12.50. The refreshments will be in the form of a hot buffet with a choice of chicken curry or shepherd’s pie. There will be vegetarian and gluten free options. Tickets will be available from Wednesday 2nd September.
