🌱 ALLEPPEY KITCHEN GARDEN PROJECT – LITTLE UPDATE 🌶️🍅
First of all, thank you so much to everyone who has messaged, commented, offered advice, tools, plants, seeds, ideas and encouragement.
Honestly, I only put the post out thinking maybe one or two kind people might say, “Sree, please don’t touch the plants without adult supervision.” 😄
But the response has been lovely, and it looks like this could become a proper little community project.
The idea is still simple: to turn part of the space at the back of the pub into a small vegetable and herb garden for Alleppey Kitchen at the Castle Arms — growing things like tomatoes, chillies, coriander, cabbage, cauliflower, curry leaves, onions, garlic, ginger and whatever else is brave enough to survive Bolsover weather.
I would love this to become a weekly community gathering if possible, with people coming together to help, share ideas, have a chat, and enjoy plenty of Indian tea, coffee and snacks. Even if the plants don’t grow, at least we definitely won’t go hungry.
Because a lot of people have shown interest, I may need to organise it properly so everyone gets a chance to be involved. This may be through small groups, a rota, different jobs, or separate days depending on what help is needed.
A small disclaimer from me:
This is a voluntary community project, so please only take part if you are comfortable doing so. Everyone will be responsible for their own safety, and we will try to keep all tasks sensible, safe and suitable. Please also let us know before bringing tools, equipment, plants, compost or materials so we can make sure everything is suitable and safe for the space.
We are still very grateful for any spare garden tools, pots, seeds, plants, compost, raised bed materials, landscaping ideas, or just good advice. At this stage, I honestly need all the advice I can get before I accidentally plant curry leaves in the car park.

Thank you again. I am really excited to see where this goes.
Good food, good people, good community — and hopefully some vegetables at the end of it.
Thank you,
Sree
