My brother from another mother’s son, Tom, had the incredible opportunity to play at Old Trafford. ⚽️

I couldn’t be prouder of this young man. A huge congratulations to Tom and to his proud parents, Nisha and Josey, for supporting him every step of the way.

Opportunities like this don’t come along every day, and seeing him out there on such an iconic pitch is truly special.

Keep working hard, stay humble, and keep chasing your dreams, Tom. The future is bright.

Very proud of you, young man. ❤️⚽

🌱 ALLEPPEY KITCHEN GARDEN PROJECT – LITTLE UPDATE 🌶️🍅

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who has messaged, commented, offered advice, tools, plants, seeds, ideas and encouragement.

Honestly, I only put the post out thinking maybe one or two kind people might say, “Sree, please don’t touch the plants without adult supervision.” 😄

But the response has been lovely, and it looks like this could become a proper little community project.

The idea is still simple: to turn part of the space at the back of the pub into a small vegetable and herb garden for Alleppey Kitchen at the Castle Arms — growing things like tomatoes, chillies, coriander, cabbage, cauliflower, curry leaves, onions, garlic, ginger and whatever else is brave enough to survive Bolsover weather.

I would love this to become a weekly community gathering if possible, with people coming together to help, share ideas, have a chat, and enjoy plenty of Indian tea, coffee and snacks. Even if the plants don’t grow, at least we definitely won’t go hungry.

Because a lot of people have shown interest, I may need to organise it properly so everyone gets a chance to be involved. This may be through small groups, a rota, different jobs, or separate days depending on what help is needed.

A small disclaimer from me:
This is a voluntary community project, so please only take part if you are comfortable doing so. Everyone will be responsible for their own safety, and we will try to keep all tasks sensible, safe and suitable. Please also let us know before bringing tools, equipment, plants, compost or materials so we can make sure everything is suitable and safe for the space.

We are still very grateful for any spare garden tools, pots, seeds, plants, compost, raised bed materials, landscaping ideas, or just good advice. At this stage, I honestly need all the advice I can get before I accidentally plant curry leaves in the car park.

If you would like to be part of the group, please join the WhatsApp group here:

Thank you again. I am really excited to see where this goes.

Good food, good people, good community — and hopefully some vegetables at the end of it.

Thank you,
Sree

🌱 THE ALLEPPEY KITCHEN GARDEN PROJECT STARTS HERE 🌶️🍅

Right… this is the space at the back of the pub.

At the moment it is mostly concrete, grass, weeds, and my confused face looking at it thinking, “Where on earth do I start?” 😄

But I would love to turn part of this into a little community garden for Alleppey Kitchen at the Castle Arms — growing tomatoes, chillies, coriander, cabbage, cauliflower, curry leaves, onions, garlic, ginger and anything else brave enough to survive the Bolsover weather.

I am not a gardening expert. In fact, if plants could leave reviews, mine may not be 5 stars. Also, with my partially paralysed hand, many practical jobs are difficult for me, so I am hoping to bring together a small group of lovely local people who enjoy gardening, allotments, landscaping, growing vegetables, or simply telling me what not to do.

The plan is to make it a little weekly community gathering if there is enough interest — with plenty of Indian tea, coffee and snacks on offer. Even if the plants don’t grow, at least we won’t go hungry.

If we get lots of interest, I will find a fair way to get everyone involved, maybe in small groups or different little jobs.

We would also be very grateful for any donations of spare garden tools, pots, compost, seeds, plants, raised bed materials, or advice on how to make this space look beautiful rather than like I lost a fight with a lawnmower.

The dream is simple: grow something fresh, local and meaningful that we can use in our kitchen, while bringing people together around food, gardening and community.

If you fancy being part of this little adventure, please message me.

Thank you,
Sree

Pubs and bars will be able to open later during the men's football world cup thanks to an extension to licensing hours.

The Government has made an Order under the Licensing Act 2003 which extends licensing hours for licenced premises in England and Wales during specific FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026 matches.

The extension applies only where England or Scotland are playing in a qualifying knock-out match and only to premises that already hold a premises licence or club premises certificate permitting the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises until at least 11pm on the day of the match. Existing licence conditions still apply.

⭐️ SATURDAY BUFFET NIGHT ⭐️

What a journey it has been.

When we opened Alleppey Kitchen almost 3 years ago, many people told us South Indian food (no tikka masala, no balti, no naan bread (we got our Kerala Porotta though))would be a difficult sell in Bolsover. Today, thanks to your support, we are proud to have:
