A historic pub with a delightfully warm and welcoming atmosphere. Traditional pub classics, sunday roasts, live music, bat and trap and much more
(233)

The original stone floor, piecrust moulded ceilings, beams and open fireplace, are complemented by a refurbishment which has fully revealed its evocative, historic character. The listed redbrick building, dating back to 1570, was built by Sir Roger Manwood as part of a set of almshouses. The pub claims to be the site of the invention of bat and trap, which is still played there today. Only 10 minutes walk from the University of Kent. It is popular with the local community as well as visitors who seek it out for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere, large relaxing garden and menu of pub classics.
