No Machine is the collaborative project of Lior Solomons-Wise and Jonah Phillips, who formed a creative partnership as graduates of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and through a fellowship at the renowned Vortex Jazz Club (Whirlpool Series).
Blending the jazz tradition with a love for contemporary folk and alternative songwriting, No Machine draws inspiration from a range of artists including Sam Wilkes and Sam Gendel, Joel Ross and Adrianne Lenker, taking its name from a track by the latter. No Machine seeks inspiration from imagery of natures place in a world distorted by anthropisation.
Lior Solomons-Wise is a jazz pianist, songwriter and award-winning composer/arranger. Lior was awarded the Dankworth prize for Jazz Composition in 2023 and is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied Jazz and Classical piano. Performing highlights include, Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Express Jazz club Soho, 606 Club, the Vortex Jazz Club, the EFG Jazz Festival and the INNtöne jazz festival in Austria.
Jonah Phillips is an active London-based drummer, bandleader and arranger who performs on stages across the UK and internationally. With a background in fine art and film, Jonah is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. His work is influenced by the jazz tradition, fused with his interest in alternative songwriting, indie, post-punk, folk and electronica.
