On this day 20 years ago we opened the doors of Brighton Sausage Co. for the first time. I was 29 and Dave my business partner and friend was only 19. I'm pretty sure many looking at us that day were not sure how long we'd last. But here we are. We were young, had no money (we started the business with £5,000 and a £15,000 bank loan) but full of desire to create a no nonsense food shop in the heart of the North Laine. We ran the shop during the day and then made sausages in the basement in the evening. We grafted hard and we made it work. We started the wholesale arm of the business, got ourselves a little factory, grafted harder, got ourselves a bigger factory. We started employing people, wonderful people who have all given a part of themselves to our business.
We've survived recession, credit crunches, pandemic and lockdowns. We've laughed, cried, worried and served the good people of Brighton through it all.
And so we find ourselves here, older, possibly wiser but still with the passion we started with to produce the best sausages, bacon and sausage rolls we can and sell it all with a smile on our face.
So we want to say a big thank you to all who have shopped with us, to all our wholesale customers who use and sell our produce and to all our wonderful staff down the years, without you it wouldn't have been possible and it certainly wouldn't have been as much fun!
