A lovely autumnal walk this morning and a delicious coffee courtesy of The Longholme after a busy weekend.
Next Sunday our beautiful river will be hosting the annual Remembrance service and parade at 11am.

We open at 12, and between 1-4pm we will have live music with a collection of 30’s and 40’s songs with Jessica Hodge, to get us “in the mood“ for a rousing Remembrance speech from our very own Sir Winston Churchill.

On the bar this weekend we’re going old school with a choice of either Courage Directors at 4.8% or Boddingtons. 4%.
The Fire will be on for a traditional afternoon in a traditional boozer. Cheers! 🍻

What a night! Didn’t get nearly enough pics of all the fabulous costumes but a huge bravo to one and all!!! Thank you to everyone who came along to join in the fun.. and as for Goats in Trees… you guys ROCK!!! 🤘🤘🎸🎸
Alka seltzer and de-cobwebbing is the order of the day today, before tomorrow nights monthly quiz.. Jim and Moira will be back with another cracking set of questions. 8pm Max teams of 6, £2 per person.

All set for Halloween 2026!

Miss Scarlett has fallen victim to the rope, courtesy of a jealous lover.
Colonel Mustards continual snoring after several whiskies drove his wife to turn his own revolver on him.
Professor Plums scientific discoveries have rattled MI5 so a knife to the head it is!
Mrs Peacock is guilty of a Lady Chatterly type affair with the gardener and has paid the price with a spanner through the skull.
Reverend Green has been found guilty of misappropriation of church funds, but has the poison been concealed in the earl grey or the Victoria Sponge?!
Why not pop along to the Devvy to solve the mystery and listen to the frighteningly fabulous Goats in Trees too.

A spooooooky weekend is in the offing, and it’s no tricks and all treats!!!
It’s a home rugby game tomorrow with Bedford Blues playing Hartpury at 3pm. Pre and post match we have the lovely Simons from Crown and Heel here with their devilishly delicious smashburgers.
We have a terrifying tipple on the bar in the shape of Theakstons Portergeist a salted caramel porter at 4.2%.
And last but certainly not least at 8.30pm, when all the trick or treaters are safely tucked up in their beds, it’s the adults time to party with the ghastly Goats in Trees one of the best gigs of the year!!!
Dress up spooky or come as you are, the staff dress up theme this year is Cluedo.
So make like a zombie and stagger down to the Devvy for a frighteningly fabulous night!
Mwhahahahha!!!

It’s October, so I think it’s fairly safe to mention the C-word. 🤞
After a very successful trial run last year our Cheese, w**e and song evenings are back for a second year!

£25 a ticket, which includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival, a large glass of w**e and a cheese board. There will be a fun Christmas picture quiz, and Jessica Hodge from The West End at Christmas will be on hand to serenade us throughout!

The dates are Thursday 10th December 7pm (almost sold out), Tuesday 15th December 7pm and 17th December 7pm.
Come join us and eat drink and be merry!

It’s spoooooky season… and one of our favourite times of the year, and only 2 weeks until our Halloween extravaganza with Goats in Trees!

It’s a rugby day too with the might Bedford Blues playing Hartpury at 3pm, so we have the Simon’s from Crown and heel here with their scarily delicious smashburgers.
On the bar we have a tantalising taste bud sensation of a treat for you in the shape of Theakstons Portergeist, at a respectable 4.2%.

And from 8.30pm we have Goats in Trees here once again, pulling out all the stops!
Dress up spoooooky, if you dare…. The staff theme this year is Cluedo characters.

The weather is turning chillier, leaves are falling and we’re feeling decidedly Autumnal.
This weekend is ladies day, Bedford Blues will be facing the Cornish Pirates at the later time of 5pm this Saturday.
And as a little pre/post game treat we have a very seasonal b**r on the bar with Autumnity by Thornbridge, at a sturdy 4.8% it’s sure to warm your cockles on a chilly evening. 🍁🍻

We left the pub in the capable hands of our fabulous staff yesterday and had a little wander down the river.
An absolutely delicious roast was devoured at The Kings Arms, followed by music from the Out of the Hat who were excellent as always, and what a treat to have this view on the walk home. Bedford most certainly isn’t s**t! 🧡
