A message from Marty Bowers,
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our much-loved pub regulars and a true character who will be sorely missed.
He was music mad, with a song, an artist or a musical memory never far from his mind. Whether it was an old classic, a forgotten favourite or something that had just come on the jukebox, he always had something to say about it.
But perhaps most of all, he was a storyteller. He could turn an ordinary tale into an occasion, gathering people around him with his warmth, humour and unmistakable way of bringing every story to life. Whether you had heard the story once or a dozen times, somehow it was always worth hearing again.
He was more than a regular — he was part of the heart and soul of the pub. Where he stood may now be empty, but the memories, laughter, music and stories he leaves behind will remain.
He was a real character, a great friend to many, and someone who made the pub a better and livelier place simply by walking through the door.
Raise a glass, put on a good record, and tell a story or two in his honour.
He will be very fondly remembered and very sadly missed. Cheers, to Jack.
