Ethno-pop artist Vilma Jää draws her inspiration from powerful emotions and dark
themes, bringing folk music into the present day in a unique way.
Traditional instruments blend with synthetic beats, where Finno-Ugric

singing tradition meets modern pop aesthetics.
Her role as a folk singer in Kaija Saariaho’s opera *Innocence* brought Jää
international recognition, and her album *Kosto* (2023) cemented her position
at the pinnacle of Finnish music. The album won the Ethno of the Year award at the Emma
Gala and the Folk Music Album of the Year award at the Eläköön FOLK! Gala.
Vilma Jää’s unique voice and bold style of expression create moods that
range from a respect for tradition to creative experimentation.

Vilma Jää’s songs are powerful statements about the environment and humanity’s
place in the world. A charismatic live performer, she gives folk music
a new face by building a new world upon tradition. In the summer of 2026,
the artist’s second album, *Loitsui ja taikoi*, will be celebrated on tour.
