Since 1974, the Coca-Cola sign has defined Kings Cross as an unmistakable landmark and iconic meeting spot.

Positioned above Darlinghurst Road and William Street, the ‘Coke sign’ has stood through every season, lighting up major events from Mardi Gras to City2Surf, becoming part of the city’s culture.

In 2015, the sign was carefully restored, replacing the red and white neon tubes with energy-efficient LED lighting. This reduced power use while enabling a wide range of colours.

The original sign was auctioned off letter by letter on eBay for Wayside Chapel, raising over $100,000 to support people experiencing homelessness.

Today, the Coca-Cola sign remains a symbol of Sydney nightlife, reimagined for the future.
