What a day at West Allis A La Carte! ❤️

We met so many amazing new people, caught up with old friends, saw the cutest kids, and gave plenty of love to some absolutely adorable pets!! So many smiles, so many laughs, and so many reminders of why we love being part of this community 🥰

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the Eckbar booth, grabbed some swag, entered our giveaway, shared a story, or stopped to say hi! We can’t wait to welcome some new faces into the Eckbar family! 🎉

A special thank you to the West Allis Downtown Bid and all of the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event happen! What an incredible showcase of our city and community spirit ❤️ And the weather couldn’t have been more perfect… although my sunburn is definitely reminding me that I spent the entire day outside & forgot sunblock 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤪

It’s a first for us….Eckbar will be at West Allis A La Carte this Sunday from 11 AM–5 PM!! It’s the biggest block party in West Allis 🎉

Are you a West Allis Veteran? Do you want to be in the Independence Day parade? Alderman Dan Roadt is looking for veterans to join him on a bus riding in the Independence Day Parade on Thursday, July 2 at 7 p.m. in Downtown West Allis. Seats are limited and reserved for veterans only. To confirm your spot, please call Alderman Roadt at 414-321-7264 by June 15. Veterans will meet, depart, and return from the West Allis Senior Center. Come ride with fellow veterans and be honored in this year’s celebration!

A lot of people often ask about the tree in the Eckbar logo, so I figured I’d share the story behind it again for those of you who don’t know.

The tree in the logo is a linden tree. In old German villages, the linden tree was known as the gathering place of the community.

For centuries, towns across Germany built life around linden trees. They stood in village centers near taverns, churches, and market squares. People gathered beneath them to celebrate weddings, drink beer, play music, tell stories, grieve losses, settle disagreements, fall in love, and simply be together.

The linden tree symbolized community, honesty, hospitality, protection, and connection. Some villages even believed people spoke more truthfully beneath its branches.

And fun fact… linden trees also became tied to German beer garden culture. Before refrigeration, breweries planted large shade trees like lindens above underground beer cellars to help keep the beer cool. Tables and benches were added underneath them, and eventually those gathering spaces became what we now know as traditional beer gardens.

So when I chose the linden tree for Eckbar, it wasn’t random. Because to me, a neighborhood bar has never just been about drinks. It’s always been about the people.

It’s where celebrations happen. Friendships start. Heartbreaks get talked through. Benefits get planned. Stories get told. People find comfort. Neighbors become family. People propose. Weddings are celebrated. Deaths are mourned. And so so sooo much more.

Over the last 5 years alone, I’ve watched all of that happen inside these walls.

So the linden tree in our logo became a symbol of what I always hoped Eckbar would be:

A place where people gather.
A place where you belong.
A place with roots.

And honestly… that’s exactly what it became. ❤️

This weekend isn’t just about cookouts, cold beer, & an extra day off. It’s about remembering the people who never made it home. The people who gave everything so the rest of us could keep living freely. So hug your people a little tighter. Raise a glass for the ones who can’t. And never forget that somebody else paid the price for the freedoms we get to enjoy every single day. ❤️🤍💙
