Orchid Island Brewery is a small family owned & operated company based out of Vero Beach, FL. OIB has built a reputation for incorporating local Indian River citrus into IPA's and sour beers. Mixing a global view and a local knowledge, the brewery has allowed us to follow an affinity since our first beer was brewed in 2008. Along the way came the home brew shops, the beer competitions, the friends

and the bottle share parties, going Pro, the good and the bad, the collaboration trips, and the stokedness. The town of Orchid Island and Indian River County originated around the citrus industry. The area is widely recognized as a region that grows the planet's best citrus. During winter months when citrus is in its peak harvest, cold snaps sweeten the citrus. What makes Orchid Island unique is its proximity to the ocean and the Indian River lagoon. During the worst winter cold fronts, the ocean and river have a warming affect on the island that keeps the fruit above freezing. The combination of OIB's geography and climate are what lend to a deep sense of place.

As dark as the deepest mangrove bogs off The Trail with the freshest White Grapefruit finishing; glistening flavors like a blinding sun across the lagoon. An IPA representative of the real Florida.

Isolated by space and time, traversing Jungle Trail was always a journey of the mind. The feral remnants of barrier island citriculture can still be found here, usually through a trail of scent.

A call to adventurous spirits who still hear the primal sounds of this ancient land.

Why We Zest - Space Road

Dry zesting (and dry hopping) with citrus zest adds intense tropical juiciniess and balances flavor. Specifically combining grapefruit, orange & lemon, each containing different concentrations of essential oils, rounds out a full citrus profile and smoothes the delivery.

We source all of our citrus local to the Indian River watershed, with most of our suppliers in Vero Beach; River Front Packing, Adair Acres & Lambeth Groves.

After separating the peel from the tithe we save the core for pulp, juice & syrups, we dry the peels for zest to be added with the hops.

Our “last-mile” proximity and relationships with these remaining pinnacles of agriculture gives us the freshest possible access to the best coastal-grown citrus on the planet.

Indian River IPA

Ruby Reds, Honeybells & Eureka Lemons illuminate this IPA, reminiscent of a moonless stroll down a sand bottomed path, rumble from a distant pre-dawn launch.

There was a time before there were streetlights to be dimmed for sea-turtles, when nightly patrons of Jungle Trail drifted effortlessly through the endless palmettos & citrus groves with the intention of stargazing into the eternal bliss. Affectionately referring to the trail as Space Road, a bouquet of cicadas and a haze that rivals the beer itself would accompany the celestial light show flowing in the current overhead.

We’re chasing that moment down with a triad of Indian River Citrus forming a constellation of flavor profiles we hope will brighten your day or night.
