From the hop fields to the brewhouse 🍻

One of the highlights of our time in Yakima was getting to visit Bale Breaker Brewing Company and getting to jump in and help fresh hop their brew with freshly harvested citra hops.

A huge thank you to Meghann, Kevin, Kevin & their family for welcoming us so warmly, showing us around your beautiful brewery, and letting us be part of the brewing process. There is something pretty incredible about standing in a brewhouse surrounded by hops that were just harvested down the road.

This visit was especially meaningful for our family. My dad has worked with the Smith family for years, and John’s uncle, August Busch III, had the opportunity to meet their father as well. Brewing has always been about more than what’s in the glass for our family. It’s about the people, the relationships and the traditions that connect generations of brewers and growers.

Getting to experience that together, all the way out here in Yakima, was something we will never forget.

Thank you again for having us. Prost to good hops, good b**r and great times. 💚🍻

From the Hallertau to Yakima Valley 💚

We had the amazing opportunity to join my father for the hop harvest in Yakima, and it was an incredible experience.

Over the past few days, we visited hop farms, breweries and hop innovation centers, learning about the varieties being grown here and the work farmers and breeders are doing to shape the future of hops.

It was especially fascinating to see the differences between Yakima and the Hallertau. Here, the hop vines grow typically around 6 meters tall compared to roughly 7 meters in the Hallertau, largely due to differences in varieties. The vast majority of U.S. hops are also irrigated, with Yakima Valley being by far the largest hop-growing region in the country (~75%), where the crops are fully irrigated.

The quality of this year’s harvest looks excellent, and farmers are expecting average yields. We also had the chance to see some incredibly interesting experimental varieties being developed for better disease resistance, greater climate tolerance and higher, more stable yields.

As brewers, getting to see this work firsthand is pretty special. We can’t wait to brew with some of these new varieties ourselves. 🍻

A few days surrounded by hops, hop farmers and fellow brewers has given us a whole new appreciation for what goes into one of the most important ingredients in our b**r.

And now, on to Idaho… 🍺

The Märzen is on draft now! 5.9% ABV yet deceptively smooth. Brewed in March, lagered for 6 months.

The original Oktoberfest b**r. Brewed in March and patiently lagered for six months, just as German tradition intended. Copper in color, with rich malt aroma, a silky-smooth body, and a clean, crisp finish.

Märzen was the b**r traditionally poured at Oktoberfest before the celebration evolved to the lighter, more modern Festbier we know today. Ours brings that old-world character back to the glass. We are releasing both styles for you to try - Festbier will be released on 9/19 for our Oktoberfest!

Hopfen Rundfahrt Marks the beginning of the hop harvest season. This is where the farmers, politicians, researchers, and brewers gather to discuss the state of the hop industry and this year’s harvest. We were lucky enough to be invited by Helena’s dad to witness this special day. Prost from the Hallertau and to a safe and prosperous harvest! 🍻♥️
