Our Mom Gwen would be 102 on June 16th. (She wouldn’t want anyone to know)!
We are going to raise our glass tonight to her and the beautiful legacy that she left.
She has been gone going on 10 years now, but it seems like just yesterday her smiling face was sitting at that back table enjoying and watching over her “living room”, Handlebar J and all the people she considered family.
The Herndon Brothers played music, she beamed, you gathered, danced, and enjoyed, life was magical. I just loved seeing her happy.
This business is probably tougher now than its ever been, and I know if she were still here she would be saying “what the hell are you doing this for”????
I do it to keep her legacy alive.
Handlebar J felt more like home to her than home! Why?, because she spent the majority of her time there. She lived in Arcadia and drove twice and sometimes 3 times a day back and fourth to HBJ (An 18 min drive each way), for over 40 years!
Why did SHE do it??? She always said she did it for her kids!
I have often heard stories of something simple she had done to help someone along their life journey, whether was giving advice to someone going through a break up, or giving a college kid a place to do their homework and a burger, or cooking for a hungry customer long after the kitchen was closed….. I still hear those stories to this day. Maybe you have one you would like to share with us tonight… Just let me know.
Gwen was a giver! She gave to her family, she gave to her guests, thats just what she did.
Her hand prints are just to the right of the front door (outside in the cement).
I know that as far as HBJ is concerned, and of course Rick, Ron and me….. we wouldn’t be here without her!
(We had to cancel tomorrow’s event due to unforeseen circumstances)…. But,
We hope you can’t stop in tonight to raise our glass to GWEN!
The Herndon Brothers (her favorite band) starts at 8pm.
shortly after 8pm, we will share a toast.
This is a simple celebration to gather, dance, smile, remember and enjoy the memory of our dear Mom Gwen on her upcoming Gemini birthday. Her incredible place and memory lives on. I know she is watching over us! (Ain’t no way we could have made it this long without that, believe me!)
Hope to see you tonight!
