Meet the heart and soul of Nōnnō Umberto ❤️🍝

“Nonno” means Grandpa in Italian, and Nonno Umberto is the inspiration behind everything we do.

After moving here from Rome, he opened this restaurant in 1998 and shared his passion for authentic Italian food with our community for decades. In 2024, the hurricanes completely destroyed the restaurant, but we refused to let his dream end there.

A year and a half later, we rebuilt from the ground up and proudly named it Nōnnō Umberto in his honor.

Today, you’ll still find him here doing what he loves making homemade pasta and cooking for guests with the same passion he brought from Italy all those years ago.

30 year old restaurant owner here 👋

This restaurant was once just a dream.

A dream that many people said would never work.

A dream built through setbacks, failures, sleepless nights, uncertainty, and an unbelievable amount of hard work.

I’ve worked every position in this restaurant. Dishwasher, seated guests, run food, cleaned, managed, marketed, and yes even jumped into the kitchen to make pizzas when needed.

But this story isn’t just about me.

It’s also about my incredible husband, Simone.

When so many people doubted him, laughed at him, questioned him, and told him his dreams were impossible, he kept going.

He never stopped believing in himself.

He took every criticism, every setback, and every obstacle and turned it into motivation. His talent, passion, and determination are a huge part of why Nōnnō Umberto exists today.

The people who laughed don’t see the years of sacrifice.

They don’t see the long days, the stress, the risks, and the countless hours it takes to build something from nothing.

Success isn’t luck.

It’s believing in your vision when nobody else does.

It’s showing up every day.

It’s refusing to quit.

POV: Memorial Day Weekend at Nonno Umberto 🍝🔥

The pizza oven never stopped burning…
Chefs yelling orders, fresh pasta flying, steaks hitting the grill, seafood sizzling, martinis shaking, guests cheering, plates dropping on marble tables nonstop. 🇮🇹🍷

One second you’re watching Nonno’s homemade pasta being made… next second a dry-aged steak is slicing through the dining room while the whole restaurant smells like garlic, wood fire, and espresso martinis.

This wasn’t dinner… this was controlled Italian chaos. 🔥
And honestly? Sarasota went CRAZY for the new specials this weekend. 👀🍕🥩🍝

From completely destroyed by the hurricanes… to being told there was no chance we would ever come back.

But we’re Italian. We don’t quit. 🇮🇹

We took our family recipes, our passion, and our dream on wheels with the Buonissimo Food Truck to raise the funds to rebuild what the storm tried to take from us.

Now we are finally back bigger, stronger, and more passionate than ever as Nōnnō Umberto Italian Seafood & Steakhouse in Sarasota.
