We were honored to host St. Charles School District 303 for its inaugural “Together Honoring Excellence” Award Ceremony!

We’re especially grateful they chose Rec Haus to celebrate such a special event — a vibrant, lively environment built to bring people together through fun, games, great food, and drinks.

Fun fact about Rec Haus 🎸

Before Rec Haus existed, our building at 12 N. 3rd Street was home to the legendary Jaguar Club — and on August 10, 1968, The Who played here for around 300 people in what many described as a “life-changing” concert.

A pretty fitting piece of history considering Rec Haus is packed with pinball machines… and just one year later, The Who released one of their most iconic songs of all time: Pinball Wizard.

Back then, the Jaguar Club was a converted roller rink with low ceilings, exposed pipes, and a tiny stage that put fans just feet away from the band. Tickets were only $4.

During the show, Pete Townshend famously smashed his guitar during “My Generation,” kicked holes in the ceiling, and left the crowd in complete shock from how loud and wild the performance was. Keith Moon’s drums weren’t even miked, yet somehow every note could still be heard over the massive amps.

One fan even flew in from Dayton, Ohio with his dad just to see the show. Afterward, his dad ended up backstage taking Polaroid photos of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, and John Entwistle — reportedly the first time the band had ever seen a Polaroid camera.

The Jaguar Club later hosted acts like The Yardbirds, but for many locals, that night with The Who remains one of the greatest concerts St. Charles has ever seen.

Pretty cool history for our little corner of downtown St. Charles.
