Breakaway RVA

Breakaway RVA Our mission is to build community through biking and build biking through community. Explore RVA, learn history and make a friend through a group ride!

Breakaway RVA hosts social biking events and has a mission to build community through biking and build biking through community. Each of our free, pre-planned, family-friendly, safety-focused rides take off from various starting locations around the city, include Richmond history lessons, secret end locations, and a surprise treat of some kind whether that is beer, music, or food (or all three) or

even something totally unexpected. As a volunteer-led organization, our goal is to provide riders of all skills and abilities a fun and safe opportunity to explore Richmond and its growing bicycle infrastructure in one big group. We want people to “breakaway” from the status quo, get off their phones, interact face-to-face, adopt basic bike safety practices, learn more about their city and have fun as they do it - all while on a bike.

July ride!

Forget Richmond’s Colonial and Antebellum past. Join us as we search for Art Deco buildings hidden in Richmond’s history. We will stay mostly downtown, but venture into the suburbs for one great example south of the James river.

We will also take a look at the construction site that will soon be the James River Branch trail.

Heads Up: we will travel on major streets, some with bike lanes and some without. Traffic should be modest by the time we ride.

Gather Thursday July 17 at 6 PM with the ride starting at 6:15 PM.
1100 Dance Street - Clark Springs Elementary school.

Join us for the final Breakaway RVA ride of 2024... if you dare! This spooky-themed ride will take you on a tour of Richmond’s art and architecture, blending the charm of the old with the eerie new. We’ll also creep through neighborhoods, where we’ll take a short stroll to admire our neighbors’ spooktacularly decorated lawns!
Along the way, you’ll hear chilling ghost stories that linger in Richmond’s dark history.

We’ll meet at the Floyd Avenue post office (3517 Floyd Ave) at 5:45 PM and roll out at 6:00 PM sharp. Which is earlier than normal take off time. The ride will finish just in time for the start of the Halloween parade in Monroe Park—perfect for those brave enough to continue the fright fest!

Don’t forget to bring your lights, a helmet, water, and an extra dose of courage for this spooky spin through the city!
