Galognano 'SANTRe' Rosato 2024! You may not think of Autumn as season for rosé and you may not think of Tuscany as a source of great rosé, but this Sangiovese blend from the hills of the Val d'Elsa is a gorgeous relaxed rose with elegant dried cherry and touches of Tuscan herbs.
Santre is a blend of 85% Sangiovese with 15% Trebbiano blended in. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed, and ferment spontaneously in concrete tank. Erika leaves the skins in for about 2 days and then transfers the w**e. After fermentation is all done she transfers the w**e off the sediment and lets it rest in concrete for another 5 months before bottling.
Aroma: very pretty and subtle strawberry, dried cherry, tart raspberry, oregano, and a little bit of dried rosemary. It smells kind of salty, kind of minerally. The aromas are bright and uplifted - there are a lot of fruit aromas - but they're not too juicy or dense in how they smell: more fresh and vibrant. There’s a little watermelon and a little bit of burnt orange peel as well
Taste: wow, it's the delicious savory salt that gets me. The fruit is bright strawberry, fresh tart raspberry, a little bit of cranberry but then there's this crisp crunchy salty mineral rocky mid palate. And on the back of that I get some dried herbs like rosemary oregano, and sage. This is dry, precise, vibrant and delicious! It tastes very very Tuscan!
