Hey Fam, popping in here to drop off a lil something for pride.
Last Night at Chopsticks Cricket was singing and said “Hey, I’m somebody’s mother.” After her song I said, “I’m somebody’s Parent as well, and look down at this trans flag!” I Put this up in dec 2017 to proudly support my son Jay. I wanted to do this but at the time we were just a pub with Q***r people in it. Back then If you talked some homophobic s**t the bartender would say “get the f**k out of our bar!” But we were not yet a Q***r bar. I wanted to put the flag up but was a lil nervous the owner might not like it. Arik the manager at the time said “f**k it” let’s just do it and beg forgiveness if it is not loved. Trans was the first big flag up at Chopsticks with a smaller pride flag soon to follow. Then more, then more, then we emerged as the Q***r bar you see before you now. The owner David Chow did NOT care and instead embraces our diversity. Having lived through the horrible Oppression of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, he is kind and has empathy for others who have been oppressed. He opened chopsticks to spread some happiness and He and Us are very protective of our people. I said that to say this. You are a Q***r bar when you say you are and we are proud of our safer space pub and want to see more of them in the city. Happy Pride ya’ll! 11 days early from the anniversary of when Marsha P. Johnson threw the first brick at the cops, but I thought of this today and wanted to say something.
