Tonight’s pairing is Platinum Fern — a 9.4% Triple IPA loaded with New Zealand hop insanity — alongside Absolute Batman 1, the foil variant that proves DC accidentally created a monster with this series. Written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Nick Dragotta, this reimagining strips Batman down to the bones: no mansion, no fortune, no Alfred safety net… just pure rage and fists. The fact issue 1 already smashed its way to a 10th printing with this one says everything you need to know about how hard this run hit comic shops.
And honestly? The InHyuk Lee foil cover feels like it was engineered in a lab specifically for beer pairings. Metallic shine, brutal shadows, oversized bat-symbol energy — it looks like Batman is about to either save Gotham or front a Scandinavian death metal band. Meanwhile Platinum Fern comes in swinging with white grape, peach, tropical fruit, citrus peel, and just enough “this might ruin tomorrow morning” energy to make the pairing perfect. But who am I kidding … this one would obvi be worth the hangover.
This is one of those combos where you crack the beer open “for one sip,” stare at the foil for 20 minutes under different lighting angles, and suddenly you’re online pricing CGC 9.8 slabs at 1:30AM like Bruce Wayne with no parental supervision. Happy Friday yuh beauties.
