TEACH ME TUESDAY ✂️✏️🚌
Since school is finally in session this fall, we decided to teach everyone a little about how our name came about on this Teach me Tuesday!!!!!!
MEET THE LADY BEHIND THE NAME… GRACE O’MALLEY 🍀🏴☠️
Before she became known as the legendary Grace O’Malley, she was Gráinne Ní Mháille, a fearless Irish chieftain, sailor, trader, and pirate queen who ruled the seas along Ireland’s rugged western coast in the 1500s.
Grace grew up among the powerful O’Malley clan, where the sea was a way of life. She became a skilled sailor and leader, commanding ships, defending her territory, and refusing to let the men around her decide what she was capable of. 🌊⚔️
And then there’s one story that perfectly sums up Grace O’Malley…
Legend says that after giving birth to her son Tibbot Burke aboard her ship, Grace was still recovering when the ship came under attack by invaders the very next day.
While others might have stayed below deck, Grace reportedly grabbed a weapon, came onto the deck, and joined the fight, rallying her crew and helping drive the attackers away.
She had literally just given birth… and was already back in the fight. 😳🏴☠️🔥
Grace would go on to become one of the most formidable women of 16th-century Ireland — commanding ships, controlling territory, negotiating with powerful rulers, and even famously meeting Queen Elizabeth I face-to-face.
She wasn’t just a pirate.
She was a warrior. A sailor. A leader. A rebel. A mother. A legend.
And that’s the spirit behind our name. ❤️💚
