One of the activities I'm proud to undertake as Mayor is presenting the Spirit of Palm Springs Awards. This month, four individuals were honored for their exceptional contributions to the city's community, culture, and civic life.

Big cheers to Chef David Arreguin of Tac/Quila! Chef Arreguin is honored for his exceptional contributions to our local dining scene and for his leadership in bilateral exchange programs for culinary arts students in San Miguel de Allende. He is instrumental in crafting Tac/Quila's vibrant menu, which celebrates the authentic flavors of Jalisco, Mexico, and makes it a must-visit destination in Palm Springs.

Tiffany Xa is a recent graduate of Palm Springs High School and is recognized for her inspiring journey at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America of Palm Springs. Demonstrating remarkable growth, she transformed from a young club member into a respected leader. Guided by her personal philosophy that "we have the power to change the lives around us for the better," Tiffany has become a role model for her peers and a testament to the positive impact of youth engagement and leadership in the community.

Réne Hébert is a true ambassador for Palm Springs! Recently crowned Mr. Palm Springs Leather 2025 and International Mr. Leather 2025, he has been celebrated for his prominent role in the leather community. Réne uses his international platform to advocate for positive change and bring pride and visibility to our city!

Executive Chef Pedro Baroso of the Parker Palm Springs is recognized for his culinary expertise and leadership, which has strengthened our academic and cultural ties with Mexico. I am particularly proud of his work at the recent San Miguel y Sus Sabores event, where he mentored students and provided them with hands-on, real-world experience needed to thrive in our interconnected world. Chef Baroso's unique blend of Mediterranean and California cuisine has further elevated the culinary experience in Palm Springs.

Today feels extra special. Not only are we celebrating our 6th anniversary, but we’re also proud to be part of something bigger: supporting the powerful cause of Dining Out For Life. Every meal served today helps make a difference in the lives of those impacted by HIV. 50% of all proceeds will go to DAP Health.

April 24 is right around the corner. Dining out for Life is one of my favorite events of the year. Please drop in to any of our 4 restaurants, or any other participating restaurant. The goal is for Palm Springs to raise as much money as possible to end HIV and support our local premier health organization, DAP Health. Let make PS #1!
