Welcome back to 𝙇𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩, where the very faces behind our bar introduce you to cocktails on our menu! This week, we introduce you to bartender 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹.
📍 ᴡʜᴇʀᴇ ᴀʀᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ꜰʀᴏᴍ? I’ve been living in Nashville for about 11 years, so I probably ought to say that. But I’ve darted around quite a bit between the states and overseas, so it’s never felt too clear-cut for me. I spent some pretty formative years in Chicago’s Old Town, and I’ve always felt a kinship with the people and the culture there, so I normally say that.
🗓️ ʜᴏᴡ ʟᴏɴɢ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴏʀᴋᴇᴅ ᴀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴘᴀᴛᴛᴇʀꜱᴏɴ ʜᴏᴜꜱᴇ? I’m just now returning to The Patterson House after a stint elsewhere, but in total I’ve spent about a year and a half between the old and new locations. I started as a barback back on Division and worked my way into a bartending spot over a few months.
👤 ᴡʜᴏ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʙᴇ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅʀᴇᴀᴍ ʙᴀʀ ɢᴜᴇꜱᴛ? As much of an honor as it’d be to serve drinks to a personal idol, someone famous, I’m generally opposed to breaking that veil for them. I’d want them to be able to feel like normal people at the bar, and if someone like Thom Yorke sat across the bar from me I’d probably be too star struck to say much anyway. There’s no one I’d rather take care of, I think, than an old friend, and I think I’d be happiest seeing any one of my childhood pals — Ana, Ariel, Isaac, so many more — for the first time in years since our lives went in so many different directions.
💡 ᴛᴇʟʟ ᴜꜱ ᴀ ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ʙɪᴛ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛᴡᴏ ᴛᴏ ᴛᴀɴɢᴏ! The Rogue Cocktail ethos of basing cocktails in potable bitters and fortified wines lives close to my heart. They’re the cocktails I love introducing, making, drinking, and creating above all others. The Two to Tango is a confluence of so many things I love — an amaro base (in this case Amaro di Angostura), spicy homemade falernum, green chartreuse, and over-proof rum — in a tiki package. It’s Rogue through and through, and I think it’s a really great way to introduce the power of potable bitters to tiki lovers.
