Artists, makers, tinkerers, painters, and creative troublemakers wanted.
The South Stage Smudgepot Theater is casting.
These old smudgepots once worked cold nights in Rogue Valley pear orchards, guarding blossoms from frost. Then the valley changed, and many of them were pushed aside, leaned against sheds, or left to disappear under blackberry bushes.
Now they are coming back to the stage.
For the Moonlight Wine, Music and Art Festival on Saturday, June 27, we are inviting people to adopt a smudgepot and decorate it as a character inspired by one of the grape varieties grown at Quail Run Vineyards.
Funny, strange, elegant, dramatic, rustic, mysterious: all are welcome.
The decorated smudgepots will need to be returned on the evening of June 27 for the contest. After the festival, they may remain in the vineyard to which they seem so deeply attached.
Message us or email [email protected] if you would like to take part. We can help coordinate getting a smudgepot to you.
The blackberry bushes had their turn.
Now the smudgepots want a curtain call.
