That someday is now...

The dream of opening The Rogue Grape started a long time ago before we even knew of Medford, Oregon or The Rogue Valley. It all started when my husband and I were invited to make wine with our brother in law, Mark. He and his family made wine together using family recipes handed down from father to son. We had just acquired a taste for wine and jumped at the opportunity to learn more. That day we worked hand in hand with friends and family making a 2005 Cabernet from the San Isidro Valley. The experience was one of community and festive in nature. It was a celebration of the harvest season, family, tradition and community. That day shaped the direction of our lives more than we could have ever imagined.

While I fell in love with drinking wine, my husband fell in love with the art of wine making and all things fermenting. With this new love in our hearts, we started what we then called our, Santa Cruz Mountain Wine Project at our home in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This project brought our own family and friends together and allowed us to experiment with different processes. The wines we crafted were delicious and won awards time and again at our county fair and at local amateur wine contests. People liked our wines and we were proud of what we were creating. We began to dream of someday opening a winery which evolved for me into opening a wine bar.

Fast forward to 2010... We came to Southern Oregon for a friend’s wedding once again not realizing how that trip would shape our future. While visiting, we fell in love with The Rogue Valley and all of it’s natural beauty. We tasted beautiful wines, we hiked, we rafted down The Rogue River and we saw so much potential in Medford’s historic downtown. On our drive home, we dreamed of moving to Oregon (Which we did the following summer) and talked for hours about how this move could someday afford us the opportunity to follow our dreams of opening a winery and a wine bar.

That someday is now. Two dreamers with grapes in their eyes are finally building what will soon be The Rogue Grape and Medford, Oregon’s newest wine bar. The Rogue Grape’s vision is to showcase the many wonderful wines made right here in Southern Oregon! We take pride in being part of this ever growing wine community and look forward to building name recognition for The Rogue Valley AVA and all of the wonderful winemakers who deserve to be seen. With the spirit of community in our hearts, we believe if one wins, we all win and want to be part of the change that Medford, Oregon needs and wants.
