For Law Day 2026, we asked members to answer, "What does the American Dream mean to you in your life or practice?"

We are proud to share this thoughtful reflection from Brian Bennett, SVP and Associate General Counsel at Republic Bank, and a valued member of the LBA Board of Directors.

“The American Dream depends on the rule of law. It is the promise that the law is clear, applied equally, and available to all. It demands both substantive and procedural due process, so fairness is not theoretical but real. It requires accountability for the powerful and protection for those who might otherwise be left behind. Through my pro bono work and nonprofit service with immigrant populations, the unhoused, and survivors of domestic violence, I have seen that when people can truly access the law, it is not just about resolving disputes and enforcing rights. It is about opening doors, protecting families, creating stability, and restoring dignity. That is the American Dream made real, not just in aspiration, but in everyday life.”
