Known for his lyrical touch, harmonic sophistication, and innovative approach to improvisation, Evans helped redefine modern jazz and played a key role in the landmark Miles Davis recording Kind of Blue.

Back in 2016, I met an unknown musician named James King, who at the time was playing with an emerging artist named Bruno Mars during their first Super Bowl appearance.

Ironically, that same year I was producing my very first jazz festival, and James was originally supposed to be my headliner. But because of his agreement with Bruno and the possibility that he could be called away to fly out at any moment, we made the decision not to risk disappointing the audience.

Now, nearly 10 years later, we’ve reconnected and it is always good seeing James.

Our friendship has stood the test of time, built on mutual respect and a shared passion for creating unforgettable experiences. In many ways, our paths have mirrored one another, growing, evolving, and continuing to build something meaningful through music, culture, and live experiences.

Sometimes you truly never know where life will take you or who you’ll meet along the way.
