To our valued guests, friends, and the Grosse Ile/Downriver community,
After much thought and many difficult conversations, we have made the decision to permanently close Ume Asian Cuisine. Trust me, this decision did not come lightly.
I know many of you will be disappointed. Many of you have encouraged us to keep going, and I truly did everything I could to hold on to Ume for as long as possible.
Like many small, family-owned restaurants, we've faced ongoing staffing challenges, rising costs, and the difficulties of sustaining an independent business. On top of that, running two restaurants has become increasingly demanding. My husband and I poured our hearts into both Ume and Koi, but over time we realized we were sacrificing something we can never get back—time with our family.
Many of you know that we have two young boys. They are growing up so quickly, and it wasn't until recently that my husband and I realized how many school events, birthday parties, rehearsals, and precious family moments I was missing. Building these restaurants has been one of the greatest achievements of our lives, but being present for our children is something we simply can't get back.
After a great deal of reflection, we realized it was time to focus our energy where we can continue providing the quality and service our guests deserve while also giving our family the time it needs.
This decision comes with mixed emotions. Ume has been more than just a restaurant—it has been a place filled with memories, celebrations, and friendships. We will always be grateful for the kindness, loyalty, and support you have shown us. Your encouragement has meant more than words can ever express.
While this chapter is coming to an end, our journey is not over. We remain fully committed to serving our community at Koi Sushi & Hibachi Steakhouse in Trenton, where we will continue to welcome both familiar and new faces with the same passion, dedication, and hospitality you've come to know.
To everyone who dined with us, celebrated special occasions with us, recommended us to family and friends, or simply stopped by for a meal—thank you. You helped make Ume Asian Cuisine a special place, and we will always cherish the memories we created together.
This is not just the end of one chapter, but the beginning of another. We move forward with gratitude, pride in what we've built, and hope for what lies ahead.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of the Ume Asian Cuisine family. We will never forget the support you've shown us.
