Howdy.

Bar and restaurant owners (more specifically, those with A and A1 (“tavern”) licenses) were recently informed that we are now able to stay open until 2am on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Specifically, the Village has initiated a six-month pilot program that began on 9/1/26 and will end on 3/1/27. The extended operating hours will be evaluated by the Village as we get closer to 3/1/27.

*Duffy’s is going to hold steady for now, continuing to close at 1am.*

This may change soon, or further down the road, or maybe not at all.

Let me explain Duffy’s thinking on this.

Adding 12 hours to the schedule is not trivial. Doing so requires Duffy’s employees to adjust their established routines. Extended hours increase my payroll obligations. Increased hours of operation likely will increase Duffy’s insurance rates (yes, insurance companies consider this).

We (my staff and I) will continue to discuss the implications and benefits of extending our hours of service. But for now we’re staying put.

Can I tell a story?

This has been a brutal summer, $-wise. Not just Duffy's; everyone's had a bad time. But that's not what this is about. Don't know about you but I need some good stuff in my life, and here we go.

Three things:

1. Guy drinking at Duffy's. Never seen him before. Asks if I'm the owner; I say yes. He says "this is a nice bar."

I'm wearing an Iowa Hawkeyes shirt (my daughter is a freshman there.) He tells me he teaches at Iowa. He tells me his wife teaches at Iowa. My daughter is a pre-physical therapy major. His then tells me his wife teaches in the PT program. (!!)

2. Bunch of folks come into the bar this past Saturday. I'm wearing my Mets hat (sorry). They're from NY as well. Most are Mets fans; there was one Yankees fan and they made him pose in front of our "Jesus Hates the Yankees" poster. We talk; two (?) of them live in the same Long Island town as one of my best friends in the world. Like literally a few blocks away. There are some Duffy's shirts walking around NY right now 🙂

3. Some beloved regulars come in tonight. They're musicians. Like the real deal .They're with some folks I don't know. One asks "Are you Joe?" I say yes. Turns out he has played with my neice Kyra Cioffi (who is a brilliant rising star) at Jazz Aspen, which is a big fu***ng deal.

The point of this? Get out. Meet people. I don't care if you come to Duffy's (although we will take very good care of you should you come and see us.) Just get out. I need to be here because it's my job. You need to get out because you never know what's going to happen.

There is beauty in this f**ked-up world. Go find it.
