There’s a new Sauvignon Blanc that clocks in at $18.99 is a dead-ringer for that expensive Sancerre the w**e world can’t get enough of; a brand-new Italian white from the Marché region made from the Bianchello grape; a Grenache/Carignan blend from Montsant, Spain, Priorat’s little-sister appellation; and a red w**e blend from the Dão region of Portugal that is the perfect transitioning-into-fall red w**e. Fleuriet Frères Sauvignon Blanc, 2025, Vin de France, France $18.99

Domaine Fleuriet is most famous for the white w**es they produce from 20 hectares of sloping vineyards in the Loire Valley's famous Sancerre appellation. Recently, however, they've been expanding their holdings across the Loire Valley, into other Sauvignon Blanc-centric regions like Touraine, allowing them to produce different expressions of the grape. This one is a baby Sancerre if we've ever tasted one: dry, mineral-infused, and citrus-driven—just like real deal Sancerre!

Crespaia Bianchello del Metauro, 2024, Marché, Italy--Organic, Natural $27

Crespaia is located only 3 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea at an altitude of 150 meters. The vineyards face South to North, allowing the sea breezes to cool and refresh the vines, giving their w**es freshness, lift, and salty minerality—exactly the monikers we'd use to describe this lovely Bianchello del Metauro, the signature white w**e grape of Italy's Marché region.

Celler Vendrell Rived "Serè," 2023, Montsant, Spain—Organic $24

"Serè" is the name of a strong wind (kind of like France's famous La Mistral) that blasts through the Montsant region of Spain, an appellation that horse-shoes around the more prestigious region of Priorat. Don't be fooled, though! Garnacha and Carinyena from Montsant can be delicious, and usually a lot more affordable than the fancy stuff from Priorat! The Serè is case in point! It's dry and juicy with enough stuffing to stand up to changing-into-fall and even early-winter blues. Look for notes of cherry leather and minerality.

Dominio do Açor Tinto "Vila Romana," 2021, Dão, Portugal--Biodynamic, Organic $32

Dominio do Açor is an exciting estate in the Dão, a region of Portugal as pretty in landscape and w**e as its more famous counterpart, the Douro Valley. The w**ery practices biodynamic and organic farming, focusing especially on regenerative soil health. They've also brought in renowned experts to help teach them about the special terroir of the estate and how to manage their heritage vines using healthier, more sustainable methods that work with the vines rather than against them, strengthening the plants for the pressures of climate change ahead.

The "Vila Romana" is full-bodied, smooth, and earthy, with black and purple fruit, licorice spice, a little barnyard, and granite minerality. If you blind-tasted us on this w**e, we would peg it for a much more expensive blend from the Douro! Go Dão!!!!!

Marietta is one of our no brainer, go-to w**es for people looking for California decadence without Napa prices. So we're super excited to welcome second-generation w**emaker, Scot Bilbro, to The W**e Goddess on Tuesday, September 1st!

Founded by Scot’s dad, Chris Bilbro, in 1978, and starting with only a handful of purchased grapes, Marietta Cellars rose to prominence with its revolutionary Old Vine Red, a California red blend that essentially created the category. Fully estate-based and organically farmed, Marietta now has vineyards spanning 310 acres in the Alexander Valley, McDowell Valley, and Yorkville Highlands. Scot has brought Marietta into its next, incredibly exciting phase. His fusion of traditional values and style with modern precision have culminated in the most highly regarded w**es of Marietta’s four-decade history.

Scot will lead us through a tasting of seven, red-heavy w**es. We'll have an order sheet for people to special order w**es from the tasting they really, really like for pick up later in the week.

We promised last week that new w**es were on the horizon at TWG, and our W**es of the Week are here to deliver on that promise! We’re featuring a gorgeous white w**e from the island of Elba made from the Ansonica grape that is FINALLY in Chicago after Diana and Meg single-handedly drank the island dry of it; Bernard Baudry’s stunning unicorn w**e, a Chinon BLANC made from Meg’s beloved Chenin grape, is also, blessedly, back in the market, with a brand new vintage; Union Sacré’s Cabernet Franc might just be the perfect transition-to-fall red w**e we’ve found yet; and Folktale is at it again with a decadent Cabernet Sauvignon that will delight devotees of the grape, California-style. As always, you can taste them for only $5 at our Saturday W**es of the Week w**e tasting from 3-5:00 TODAY!

Cecilia Elba Ansonica, 2025, Tuscany, Italy $27

Cecilia is one of the top w**emakers on the Tuscan island of Elba. It was established in 1990 by Giuseppe Camerini, a Milanese engineer, industrialist, and artist. After visiting the Island for almost fifty years, he decided to develop his passion for viticulture and w**e in the farmstead “Podere La Casina." Today, the farm is managed by his nephews Lorenzo, who handles sales, and Renato, the w**emaker. Meaghan and I got a chance to visit Cecilia in September, and though smack dab in the middle of harvest, Renato took time to treat us to a tasting and tour (and Meaghan achieved her lifelong dream of punching down a cap of fermenting grapes in a tank). The w**es of Cecilia are spectacular, and the focus is on island whites such as Ansonica and Muscat. We fell in love with the Ansonica on the spot—it's dry, fresh, and complex with notes citrus, peach, apricot, tropical fruits, and white flowers. Pair with ALL the seafood!

Bernard Baudry Chinon Blanc "Le Domaine," 2024, Loire Valley, France--Biodynamic, Organic, Natural $32

Chinon Blanc is a bit of a "unicorn" in the w**e world. When Diana and Meaghan travelled to the Loire Valley and visited the Bernard Baudry estate a few years ago, he had already sold out of the current vintage, sending both of them to a nearby restaurant to taste Blancs made by other producers. Now that we've finally tasted it, we can definitively say that this w**e is well worth the wait. The aromatics are stunning (after a few seconds of swirling Meg declared that Chanel should invest in it for their spring scent). It's bursting with yellow apple and ripe, fleshy pear. Bone-dry on the palate, this w**e is mineral-infused with searing acidity. Absolutely glorious.

Union Sacré Cabernet Franc, 2025, Paso Robles, California—Organic $19.99

Union Sacré is a label producing Alsatian-inspired w**es in California’s Central Coast. It’s an endeavor by two friends, Xavier and Philip, who have 35+ years of experience in Central Coast w**eries, meaning you KNOW it’s is going to be good!!!! The Cabernet Franc is a dream: dry, medium-bodied, and dark-fruited with lots of minerality.

Folktale Cabernet Sauvignon "Nightswimming," 2023, Carmel Valley, California--Organic, Sustainable $24

Chateau Julien W**e Estate, which would eventually become Folktale W**ery and Vineyards, was originally founded in 1982 by Bob and Patty Brower. Bob and Patty strove to bring the art of w**e hospitality that so inspired them from their trips to Bordeaux to California. In 1996 they expanded, purchasing an adjoining parcel, expanding their vineyards, and building a w**ery and 10,000 square foot barrel hall. In 2015, local w**emker Gregory Ahn purchased the estate and renamed it Folktale W**ery & Vineyards to invoke the idea that all w**e tells a story. Folktale W**ery farms sustainably, 100% organically, and all by hand. The "Nightswimming" Cab is plush, with notes of cherry cola, berries, and warm baking spices.

Summer’s not over yet!!! What better way to celebrate than with pineapple rum from El Salvador’s first and only seed-to-bottle distillery?! While Cihuatán’s entire lineup is tasty, we can’t get enough of their Artesano Pineapple rum, which is aged for 10 years in old Bourbon barrels and then infused with Salvadoran Golden pineapples for two months. It’s just BEGGING to be made into a Piña Colada, Tiki cocktail, or Daiquiri! And look how pretty the label is!!!!!!
