Good news for cyclists! Cedar Rapids has been recognized with a silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award, honoring the City’s efforts to build better places for people to bike.
The award by the League of American Bicyclists is an upgrade from bronze-level, which the City had previously earned. It recognizes Cedar Rapids for our commitment to creating transportation and recreational bike resources that benefit residents of all ages and abilities.
Other reasons for the award include the City's long-range planning for and expansion of the trail and bikeway system, as well as our commitment to education and encouragement efforts. Events such as Bike to Work Week (May 11 to 17) and Ride the Districts (June 13) are being planned again this year, to embrace bikes as a mode of active transportation and to get more people familiar with our trail and bikeway system.
