Be Advised: The Route 13/Bridge Avenue Bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal, also known as the Loveland Town Bridge, between Point Pleasant and Bay Head, Ocean County was taken out of service for marine traffic today because of excessive heat. Route 13 remains open for vehicles.

The excessive heat has caused the expansion of some components on the bridge, which prohibits the bridge from opening to allow marine traffic to pass. In the closed position, the bridge has 30 feet of clearance over mean high water. Vessels that can transit safely under the bridge may do so.

Real Advocacy, Real Results: What MTA/NJ Does for You

Here at the MTA/NJ, we work tirelessly to promote, protect, and advance the recreational boating industry across New Jersey. But what does real advocacy actually look like? It’s more than just showing up when there’s a crisis. It’s consistent, proactive work: building relationships with legislators and regulators, providing industry expertise, testifying at hearings, writing comment letters, and sitting at the table during important discussions that shape our future.

This past week alone, our team has been on the road meeting with key partners and decision-makers. We met with education partners at Ocean County Vocational School to support and expand their Marine Tech Program, participated in a Marine Tech Demo Day in Atlantic City, and met directly with the Governor’s staff in Trenton to discuss the economic impact of recreational boating and the challenges facing our industry.

These aren’t one-off efforts — they’re part of our daily commitment to ensuring the recreational marine industry continues to have a strong, respected voice in Trenton and beyond.

Bottom line: When you’re a member of MTA/NJ, you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. We’re in the rooms where decisions are made — advocating for you and your business.

Meet the Board Member: Lou Cecchini of Off Shore Marine

Lou and his wife Sherri founded Off Shore Marine in 1986, growing it into a leading family-owned dealership where their two sons now help lead the business. Our latest issue of Member Messages features a full interview with Lou, including his thoughts on the marine industry, MTA/NJ membership, boating on Lake George, and even his passion for muscle cars and Harley motorcycles. We're so glad to have Lou on board!

NJDOT Office of Maritime Resources has completed the emergency dredging of Will’s Hole Thorofare Channel in Manasquan. From April 21 to May 6, 38,000 cubic yards of sand was placed on the Fisherman’s Cove Beach, extending the footprint for the 2026 summer season and alleviating critical shoals allowing safe navigation for NJ’s commercial fishing industry.
