The Best Walking Route to See Florence at Night

This route starts in the heart of Florence, where the city feels completely different after sunset. The crowds become softer, the marble glows under the lights, and the streets feel more atmospheric than during the day.

Start at Piazza del Duomo, where the Cathedral, Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Baptistery create one of the most beautiful night scenes in Italy. At night, the white, green, and pink marble looks almost golden under the lights.

From there, walk around the Baptistery of San Giovanni before continuing toward Piazza della Repubblica, one of the liveliest squares in the historic center. The carousel, cafés, and wide open space make it a perfect evening stop.

Continue toward Il Porcellino, the famous bronze boar, then walk into Piazza della Signoria, where Palazzo Vecchio dominates the square like a medieval fortress. This is one of the best places in Florence at night because the statues, arches, and stone buildings look even more dramatic after dark.

Just beside it, pass through the Loggia dei Lanzi, then continue into the Uffizi Courtyard. This area is especially beautiful in the evening, when the long corridor leads your eye toward the Arno River.

From the Uffizi, walk toward Ponte Vecchio. The bridge is touristy during the day, but at night it becomes much more romantic, with the lights reflecting on the river.

Cross into Oltrarno, the other side of Florence, where the atmosphere becomes quieter and more local. Walk toward Pitti Palace, then continue to Piazza Santo Spirito if you want to stop for dinner or drinks. This is one of the best evening squares in Florence, especially if you prefer a more relaxed local feeling.

After dinner, continue toward the hills. Walk through the San Niccolò area and climb toward Giardino delle Rose. This part is more tiring, but it is worth it. The garden gives you beautiful views over Florence, especially as the city lights begin to shine below.

Finish at Piazzale Michelangelo, the classic panoramic viewpoint over Florence. At night, you can see the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Croce, the Arno, and the bridges glowing together.
