On April 25th, Adega Azul welcomes a special encounter between two remarkable Brazilian musicians.

Diogo Sabre brings the essence of São Paulo’s vibrant musical scene — shaped by years of performances in theaters, bars, and intimate gatherings where Brazilian music lives and breathes.

Alongside him, Carlinhos Oliveira, a virtuoso of the 7-string guitar from Ceará, carries the richness and rhythmic depth of Northeastern Brazil.

Together, they create a unique dialogue between regions, styles, and traditions — a performance full of nuance, improvisation, and soul.

An intimate night where every note is felt up close.

Finally happening! 🌳 After reaching out to the City of Berkeley’s Parks and Rec department nearly two years ago, our block is finally getting some new trees. I’m so proud to have played a small part in their urban reforestation efforts. Can’t wait to see these grow and shade our street for years to come!

For April, we are shaking things up! Instead of our usual trip to a different country, we are zooming in on a single, world-class region: Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara is unique for its “transverse” mountain ranges—valleys that run east-to-west rather than north-to-south—which pull in cool coastal fog and create distinct microclimates. Here is the lineup and how to pair them:
Amplify Wines “Duke & Ella” | Santa Ynez Valley
A soulful Marsanne and Roussanne blend. It has the gold-standard texture you want from these Rhône grapes, with notes of honeysuckle and stone fruit.
Pair with: Richer preparations of white meats like roasted chicken or veal. It also shines with shellfish like scallops, crab cakes, or lobster—anything with a touch of butter to match the wine’s weight.
Centralas “Syren” (2020) | Sta. Rita Hills
A powerhouse Pinot Noir from the cool, foggy slopes of the Sta. Rita Hills. This wine is elegant and deep, showing off the bright acidity and red-fruit intensity (strawberry and black cherry) that makes this specific AVA world-famous.
Pair with: Classic mushroom risotto or grilled salmon. The earthy notes in the wine also make it a great match for roasted duck or a simple herbed roast chicken.
Coquelicot Estate “Mon Petit Chou” (2022) | Santa Ynez Valley
A lush, Bordeaux-style red blend. “Mon Petit Chou” (meaning “my darling”) is smooth and structured, full of dark berry character.
Pair with: Hearty, savory dishes like grilled lamb chops, venison, or a slow-cooked beef stew. It also works beautifully with a simple pulled pork sandwich or a classic cheeseburger.

The patio was the place to be!
Our Wine & Dance session on March 29th was absolute perfection. Huge thanks to everyone who brought that incredible energy under the sun—there’s nothing quite like sipping great wine and catching that Brazilian rhythm in the fresh air. 🇧🇷🍷
It was a total success, and we’re still buzzing from all the fun! 🥂🔥
Missed the magic? Don’t worry—the party is just getting started. We have more Brazilian dance classes in the works to keep those sunny weekend vibes going. 💃

For Smithie
Westbrae feels a lot emptier today. We’re saying goodbye to William Smith—better known to all of us as Smithie.
He brought a bit of Mississippi soul to California after his time in Vietnam, and he never really stopped looking out for people. Smithie was the definition of a fixture. You’d see him around, a total character with that old-school wisdom that only comes from living a real life. No matter what was going on, he’d just drop that one phrase: “aw-right, aw-right .” And somehow, hearing him say it made it true.
He was a master on the BBQ, , hard worker, a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything, and the most loyal friend you could ask for. He was the neighborhood’s go-to guy for a lot of things—including being the best w**d man on the block—but mostly, he was just there.
Smithie, David and I are gonna miss you. We’ll never forget you, man.
Rest easy. It’s aw-right!
