Decolonization is a term that’s thrown about a lot but how do we practice it?

What does it mean to reconnect with your real roots? We are challenging the idea of a single, uniform white identity and instead explore the complex histories that were often erased to consolidate white supremacy in the U.S.

Decolonization shouldn’t be drudgerous and boring. This workshop invites you to reclaim Irish heritage through language, poetry, and art, rediscovering stories, traditions, and expressions that go deeper than the usual plastic paddy shamrocks and leprechauns tropes.

Not Irish but Irish curious? This space isn’t only for those with Irish ancestry. Anyone curious about culture, creativity, and decolonizing is welcome to come play. By stepping into another culture we can all feel how identity, history, power and oppression intersect and we can have meaningful conversations around this work.

Kick things off with Fiona Murphy, an Irish teacher and scholar, who’ll introduce the Irish language through an LGBTQ+ lens. Then hear resistance poetry from Irish author Emer Martin, and write your own with prompts. Finally, bring it all to life by creating art inspired by your words and new language skills, guided by artist Veronica Eldredge.

Come learn, create, express yourself and decolonize! Most importantly, let’s have some craic! - This is a guided workshop by three professionals in their field. We ask for a $50 donation, but no one turned away. Fees will be collected through Venmo or cash at the event. Donate what you can. All funds raised from this revolutionary art workshop will be given to families currently displaced in Gaza. - Irish language, poetry, and art workshop
