Hoi Polloi Brewing Taproom and Beat Lounge A neighborhood gathering space where everyone can enjoy quality craft beer and mellow beats. Hoi Polloi (noun): the many, the masses, the common people.

The Hoi Polloi Brewing Taproom and Beat Lounge is located in the Lorin District of South Berkeley, CA. Originally, we brewed on-site in a 3 barrel brewery. Recently, we moved our brewing operations to an off-site 7 barrel brewery in Oakland, CA. This allows us to produce a variety of beers that (we hope!) will be enjoyed by a wide audience. We also host a carefully curated and rotating selection of quality West Coast craft beers and ciders. Come in, say hello, and sit for a session. We've been waiting to meet you.

We’re generally not the sentimental type here but the passing of Dolly Parton was strangely shocking to us. Her music seemed to always be a part of our lives growing up, regardless of what we may have been into at the time. We were no fans of country but there was a sense of purpose and soulfulness in the music she created. Her lyrics matched our ethos and convictions as poor but proudly working class people. She was especially true to where she came from, which despite being culturally alien to us, we still felt kinship with her because our then economic circumstances were not that much different to her poor childhood in rural Tennessee. As a human being, Dolly Parton led with love, empathy, and compassion towards everyone. We mourn the passing of this lovely person and we dedicate our latest b**r to her. “Cup of Ambition” Belgian-Style Ale (7.5% ABV).

Some of you already know this but Friday 3/6/26 is Noelle’s last day at Hoi Polloi. It’s truly a sad loss for us but another employer gains truly an awesome person that treats people with respect, kindness, and love. Her last shift is this Friday 3/6/26 (3-730pm). Let’s send her off in the way that she deserves. There will be pop up, 80’s new wave music, b**r/c***r/w**e, and happy tears !

Hey y’all ! We’ll be open from 3-10pm on Xmas eve but will be closed on Xmas day. Stock up on cans for your gatherings. We’ll have West Coast IPA, Cold Pale Ale, Hazy IPA, Irish- Style Red Ale, Belgian-Style Single, and Belgian-Style Tripel available.
